A small independent shop in Drumcondra, doing phone, tablet, laptop and console repair for people who live around it. Here is what the work is actually like and what we look for.
Mon to Sat 10 to 6Most of it is screens and batteries, done at a bench, in front of somebody who is waiting. The pace is real and so is the accountability: the customer is on the other side of the counter and sees the phone go back together.
The rest is the interesting part. Liquid damage that needs cleaning and assessing rather than a part swapped. A laptop that shuts down under load and turns out to be thermal. A console HDMI port that needs hot air and a microscope. If board-level work interests you, there is board-level work here.
You will also talk to people, a lot. Half this job is explaining to somebody that their phone is worth fixing, or that it is not, and being believed either way. Somebody who is brilliant with a screwdriver and cannot do that half is not much use on this counter.
Experience helps and it is not the thing that decides it. We have hired people who had taken apart every phone they ever owned and never worked in a shop, and it worked out. What does not work out is somebody who guesses and then does not say they guessed.
Careful hands, honest answers and the patience to test a repair properly before it goes back. That last one is the whole difference between a shop with a 360-day warranty and a shop without one.
If you have microsoldering experience, say so early, because it is the hardest thing to hire for and the easiest to make room for.
Email mobile@imend.ie with the subject line Bench, and tell us what you have taken apart. A CV is fine and it is not the part we read first; the part we read first is what you have actually fixed and what went wrong the time it did not work.
If you would rather come in and say it in person, do that instead. 4 Richmond Road, Drumcondra, during opening hours, and ask for whoever is on the bench.
We answer everybody, including when the answer is no. This is a small shop and a role is not always open, but we would rather know who is out there than post an advert in a panic.
No. We care what you have actually repaired and how you handle being wrong. A qualification is a fine thing to have and it is not the deciding factor.
Not always, and we will tell you straight when there is not. We still read everything that comes in, because the person we want is usually not looking on the week we start.
If you are already comfortable with the everyday work, yes. It is the part of this trade with the most room in it and the fewest people doing it properly.
The shop is open Monday to Saturday 10:00 to 18:00, closed Sunday. Shifts are discussed at interview rather than guessed at here.
Email mobile@imend.ie with the subject line Bench and tell us what you have taken apart, or call in to 4 Richmond Road, Drumcondra and ask for whoever is on the bench.
