The Apple Watch Series 9 arrived in 2023, with a 41 mm or 45 mm Always-On Retina LTPO OLED display and the S9 SiP chip. It charges on a magnetic charging puck and it unlocks with a passcode, or from a paired iPhone. There is an aluminium or stainless steel frame, and it is rated IP6X and 50 metres water resistant. Externally the same as a Series 8. The double tap gesture and a brighter screen are inside, so the case back is where the model is confirmed. A2978 is the model sold here.
