Mon to Sat 10 to 6
What causes it
- A cell past its rated cycle life, which is most cases
- A background app or a failed update holding the device awake
- A charging circuit drawing current it should not
- Cold weather, which temporarily exaggerates an already weak cell
What to do right now
- Check the health reading if your device has one
- Note whether it shuts down with charge still showing, which is the important one
- Look for the device being warm when you are not using it
- If the back or screen is lifting, stop charging it and bring it in
What you are seeing.
The same complaint covers several different faults. Find the line that matches and you have already narrowed it down.
- Flat by the afternoon on a normal dayThe clearest sign of a worn cell. A battery is a consumable rated for a few hundred full cycles.
- It shuts down with charge still showingThe battery cannot deliver the current the phone asks for under load, so it cuts out rather than corrupting anything. Often at 20 or 30 percent.
- It dies quickly in the cold and comes back when warmNormal chemistry on a healthy battery, and a cliff edge on a worn one.
- Battery health is below 80 percentMost phones report capacity against new. Below 80 most people notice it, and the phone may also be throttling to avoid shutdowns.
- It got worse suddenly rather than graduallyWorth a look. A sudden change is more often software or a background app than the cell.
- The screen or back is lifting at an edgeA swelling cell pushing the phone apart. This one is urgent.
Work out which one it is.
A battery is the right answer most of the time, and there are two things that imitate it closely enough to be worth ruling out first.
If none of these is clearly yours, that is what the free diagnostic is for. It costs nothing and it is the step that stops people paying for the wrong repair.
What we check at the bench.
- Cycle count and actual capacity against rated capacity
- Current draw while idle, which finds a device that is not sleeping
- Whether the charging circuit is behaving
- Physical condition of the cell, because swelling is a safety issue
What it costs.
A battery replacement is a fixed price per model, listed on that model's repair page and confirmed before anything is opened. It is usually a fraction of what a replacement handset costs.
Whatever it turns out to be, you get the price before anything is opened, and there is no fee if we cannot fix it. Every completed repair carries a 360-day warranty on the part we fitted and the work we did.
On your device.
What is different about this fault on each one.
Common questions.
Most phone batteries hold about 80 percent of their original capacity after 400 to 500 full charge cycles, which is two to three years for most people. Heat shortens it.
It might. Several manufacturers pair the battery to the phone, so a replacement can show a service message even when the cell is good. We tell you what your model does before you commit.
Treat it as urgent. Stop charging it, stop pressing the screen back down, and bring it in. We dispose of swollen cells properly.
On most phones the battery costs a small fraction of a new handset and restores the thing you actually noticed. If we think you would be throwing good money after bad, we say so.

Battery Replacement starts from €35 depending on the model. No fix, no fee, so if we cannot repair it you pay nothing.
The usual signs are a charge that drops in steps, shutting down above 20 percent, only working while plugged in, or the back of the case lifting. If the device is also slow and hot, bring it in for a free diagnostic rather than guessing, because a failing charging port looks similar from the outside.
Treat it as urgent. Stop charging it, stop using it, and do not press on the back. A swollen cell can split. Bring it in and we will remove and dispose of it safely the same day.
A new cell should hold a normal day of use and stay above 80 percent of its rated capacity for several hundred charge cycles. The 360-day warranty covers a cell that fails early.
The usual signs are a phone that dies well before the end of the day, one that jumps from 30% to nothing, or one that shuts down in the cold. If it is instead getting hot and draining while idle, that can be software, and we check that first rather than selling you a battery.
With a genuine part, yes, exactly as before. With other tiers some iPhone models show a service message next to the battery figure. It does not affect how the phone works and we tell you which you are getting before we start.
It needs dealing with rather than panicking about. Stop charging it, do not press on it, and bring it in the same day if you can. A swollen cell pushes the screen up from behind and will crack it eventually, which turns one repair into two.
