Screen not responding to touch
The picture is fine and nothing happens when you tap. That narrows it to three things, and one of them is free to rule out.

What causes it
- A failed digitiser, which is the touch layer sitting under the glass
- A cheap replacement screen fitted previously, which is the single most common cause of touch going bad months later
- A charging problem, because a bad charger puts electrical noise into the touch layer and makes it ignore you
- A software hang, where the picture is a still image and the phone has stopped
- Swelling underneath lifting the panel away from its connector
What to do right now
- Unplug it. If touch comes back the moment the cable is out, the charger is the fault and not the phone
- Force a restart before assuming hardware, because a hung phone looks exactly like a dead screen
- Take a case and a screen protector off and try again, since a thick protector kills edge touch
- Dry your hands and the screen, because wet glass reads as constant contact
- Note whether it is the whole screen or a band, because a band is a broken digitiser and the whole screen usually is not

The same complaint covers several different faults. Find the line that matches and you have already narrowed it down.
- Nothing responds anywhereUsually a hung phone rather than a broken one. Force a restart before anything else.
- A band or strip that never respondsThe digitiser is broken in that line. It does not recover and it does not spread evenly.
- Touch works until you plug the charger inThat is the charger, not the phone. A poor quality plug puts noise into the touch layer.
- It taps things you did not tapGhost touch. Either a failing panel or a cheap one fitted previously.
- It got worse after a screen repair somewhere elseThe panel that went in cannot hold calibration. A better panel fixes it.

On almost every modern phone, no. The glass, the touch layer and the display are bonded into one assembly at the factory, so the whole assembly is what gets replaced. Anyone offering to change only the glass is either separating and rebonding it, which fails, or talking about a different device.
It is not urgent, but a crack lets dust and moisture into the panel and it spreads. The repair does not get harder, it just becomes a repair you did not choose the timing of. Touch failing suddenly is the usual way people find out.
