What changes on a Oppo

The things that make this brand different on the bench, rather than a specification sheet you could read anywhere.

• Oppo and OnePlus share a parent company and a good deal of engineering, so parts and procedures often carry across between the two. It is worth telling us if you are not sure which of the two you have.
• The Find and Reno series use curved AMOLED panels on several models. A curved panel is more fragile to handle and dearer as a part, which is the main reason one Oppo screen costs more than another.
• Oppo fast charging runs at high current through the port and the cable. A port that has been getting warm is worth looking at rather than living with.
• The A series is the volume range and the one we see most. Parts are generally available; the older and more market-specific models are an order-in.

Will my data be safe?

A screen replacement is hardware work. We do not need to go into your photos, messages or accounts to do it, and we do not.

We do need to switch the phone on and use it to test the repair, so we may ask for your passcode. If you would rather not hand it over, tell us and we will show you what we cannot verify without it. Any passcode you give us goes on the paper docket and the docket gets shredded. It is never stored in our system.

Back the phone up before any repair. Not because we expect to lose anything, but because a phone that has already been dropped is a phone whose storage has already been shaken, and a backup costs nothing.

Is it still water resistant afterwards?

Treat the phone as no longer water resistant after any repair, including ours.

Apple's IP68 rating is measured on a brand new, factory sealed phone under controlled laboratory conditions. It is not a permanent property of the device. The seal degrades with age, heat and everyday knocks long before anybody opens it.

Opening a phone means cutting through that seal. We refit the display with fresh adhesive, which restores a physical seal and keeps ordinary splashes and rain out. What we will not do is tell you it is back to IP68, because we have no way to test that and neither does any independent shop in Ireland.
