The iPhone 16e came out in 2025, with a 6.1 inch Super Retina XDR OLED display and the A18 chip. It charges over USB-C and it unlocks with Face ID. There is an aluminium frame, and it is rated IP68. One camera on the back instead of two, and no Camera Control button on the right edge. Apple lists Camera Control as a feature of the iPhone 16 range excluding the 16e, so the missing button is the quickest way to tell them apart. Ireland gets the A3409.

What this fixes

What a front camera repair actually fixes.

  • Face or fingerprint unlock has stopped working tooImportant to mention. The the biometric sensor components share the assembly, and that changes the job.
  • The screen stays lit against your ear on a callThe proximity sensor sits in the same assembly and is a common casualty.
  • Face unlock has stopped as wellOn phones where the unlock hardware sits beside the front camera, one impact takes both. Say so, because it changes the part.
  • The selfie is soft but the rear cameras are sharpConfirms the front module rather than anything shared.
  • A dark ring or vignette around every selfieThe lens cover or the module seating. Both are in the display assembly on most phones.
  • Video calls show a black frameThe module has failed rather than degraded. It does not come back.
Before you spend anything

Is it definitely the front camera?

The front camera shares its assembly with Face ID and the proximity sensor, so what else is failing tells us a lot.

IfThe camera is black but Face ID still works
That points at the camera module alone, which is the simpler and cheaper of the two jobs.
IfIt stopped right after a screen repair somewhere else
The front camera and Face ID transfer across during a screen replacement, and a rushed transfer is the usual cause. Bring it in and we will tell you what we find.
IfIt stopped right after a screen repair somewhere else
Very likely a connector, because the front camera rides in the display assembly. Worth opening and checking rather than replacing.
IfFace unlock stopped at the same time
Say so at the counter. On several phones that is a different and more involved part than the camera alone.
IfIt went soft with no drop and no repair
Sometimes the adhesive holding the lens has failed. It is still a module job and it is not expensive.

If you are not sure which of these you have, that is what the free diagnostic is for. It costs nothing and it is the step that stops people paying for the wrong repair.

What parts do we fit?

Where Apple supplies a service part for this component, that is what goes in. Where it does not, we fit premium aftermarket and say so. Which of the two you are getting is settled before you agree to anything, and the 360-day warranty does not change between them.

Nobody here will call a part original when it is not. If what fits your phone is premium aftermarket, you hear that word at the counter rather than reading it on a docket afterwards.

Genuine, OEM and aftermarket: what the words actually mean

    What the €125 includes

    • The replacement front camera assembly fitted
    • Proximity and ambient light sensors checked
    • Face ID tested where it is part of the assembly
    • 360-day warranty on the part and the workmanship

Nothing extra gets done and charged for without you saying yes to it. Where the diagnostic turns up a second fault, the work stops there and you hear the price before it goes any further.

If getting here is the problem, we collect and return across Dublin from Monday to Friday. It costs the same repair price and carries the same 360-day warranty.

    Choose the part

Two tiers, named before you agree.

The front camera rides in the display assembly on most phones, so the tier conversation usually happens alongside the screen one.

    iMEND Premium

    Original or manufacturer-grade part

The manufacturer's own module, and the safest option where face unlock hardware sits beside it.

    Priced at the counter

    Value Edition

Premium aftermarket, tested to the same standard

Made to the original specification. On a front camera the difference is small and the saving is real.

    Priced at the counter

The €125 on this page is our standard quote for this repair. Which tier suits your device is a conversation at the counter, and the price for each is on the table before you decide. The 360-day warranty is the same on both, because we would not offer a tier we did not think would last.

Tell us if face unlock stopped at the same time. On several phones that is a different and more involved part than the camera on its own, and it changes what we order.

The parts we use, in full

    How we do it

From the counter to back in your hand.

Tell us what it is doing

Walk in during opening hours or book ahead, whichever suits. Tell us what the device is actually doing rather than what you think the fix is.

    Free diagnostic

Nothing is opened or ordered until we know what failed. There is no charge for this and no obligation to go ahead afterwards.

    You approve the price

You get the exact figure before any work starts. Nothing else happens without asking you first.

    The repair is carried out

Carried out here in Drumcondra rather than sent away, by people who do this repair daily.

    Bench testing

The repaired function and the things around it are checked before we call you.

    Back in your hands

Yours again, from the counter or by courier, with 360 days of cover on the part and the work.

    Before it goes back

    What we test every time.

A repair is not finished when the part is fitted. It is finished when the things around it have been checked.

    Photo and video

Both, because a module can pass one and fail the other.

    Auto brightness

The ambient light sensor sits in the same strip and is easy to disturb.

Face unlock where the device has it

Registered fresh and tested, since the hardware sits alongside the camera.

The earpiece and the sensors beside it

All of them ride in the same assembly and all of them get disturbed.

Is anything on the device at risk?

This is hardware work. We do not need to go into your photos, messages or accounts to do it, and we do not.

We do need to switch the device on and use it to test the repair, so we may ask for your passcode. If you would rather not hand it over, tell us and we will show you what we cannot verify without it. Any passcode you give us goes on the paper docket and the docket gets shredded. It is never stored in our system.

Back the device up before any repair. Not because we expect to lose anything, but because a device that has already been dropped is one whose storage has already been shaken, and a backup costs nothing.

    What about the water resistance?

Treat the phone as no longer water resistant after any repair, including ours.

Apple's IP68 rating is measured on a brand new, factory sealed phone under controlled laboratory conditions. It is not a permanent property of the device. The seal degrades with age, heat and everyday knocks long before anybody opens it.

Opening a phone means cutting through that seal. We refit the display with fresh adhesive, which restores a physical seal and keeps ordinary splashes and rain out. What we will not do is tell you it is back to IP68, because we have no way to test that and neither does any independent shop in Ireland.

If your phone lives near water, say so when you book and we will talk you through what the adhesive does and does not cover.

    The 360-day warranty

Every completed repair is covered for 360 days on the part and the workmanship. If the display we fitted fails, or the fitting was at fault, we put it right at no charge.

What it does not cover is a new accident. A phone dropped again after the repair, fresh physical damage, liquid damage, or a fault in a part we did not touch, all sit outside it. That is the same limit any honest repair warranty has.

No fix, no fee. The diagnostic is free, and if the repair does not happen you pay nothing.

Three ways to get it to us

    • Walk in to Drumcondra4 Richmond Road, Dublin 3. No appointment. Mon to Sat 10:00 to 18:00, closed Sunday. Most phone screens and batteries done in 15 to 45 minutes while you wait.
    • We collect and returnDoor to door across Dublin, Monday to Friday, usually 2 to 4 working days. The repair takes the same time; the courier is the difference.
    • Send it in yourselfPost it to the shop with a tracked, insured service and a note with your number. We cannot cover a parcel in transit, and that is the honest trade-off for the route existing.

Same repair price and the same 360-day warranty on all three. The only thing that changes is how the device travels.

    Asked all the time

    iPhone 16e screen questions.

€125, including the part, the fitting, the testing and the 360-day warranty. VAT is included. You get that figure confirmed before anything is opened, and if we cannot repair the phone you pay nothing.

Usually same day. If the diagnostic turns up something else, or a part has to be ordered, we tell you before you commit rather than after.

Sometimes, and not always. The dot projector is paired to your phone at the factory, so if that specific component has failed it often cannot be replaced with a working one. We will tell you straight rather than charging you to find out.

Yes, when the job is done properly. On most phones the unlock hardware sits in the same assembly and has to be handled with the camera. That handling is what goes wrong in a rushed repair.

On most phones it is mounted in the display assembly rather than the body, so it comes out with the screen. That is also why it sometimes stops working after a screen repair done badly.

Usually yes. The camera is its own module inside the assembly and it can be swapped on its own.

A front camera module is one of the cheaper parts in a phone, so on most models yes. We will say where it is not.

iMEND is an independent repair service. Brand and model names are used only to describe the devices we repair. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or an authorised service provider for any manufacturer.

    Why bring it here

An independent workshop, not a kiosk.

We are a dedicated repair bench in Dublin 3. That means we take on work authorised channels turn away, and we tell you honestly when something is not worth fixing.

    Diagnosed, not guessed

Every device is tested before we quote, so you are not paying for a part that was never the problem.

    Parts that last

Genuine or OEM-grade components chosen for your model. We tell you which is going in before we start.

    Your data stays yours
