The iPhone 8 came out in 2017, with a 4.7 inch Retina HD LCD display and the A11 Bionic chip. It charges over Lightning and it unlocks with Touch ID in the home button. There is an aluminium frame, and it is rated IP67. Home button, one camera, and a glass back that supports wireless charging. The glass back is the difference between an 8 and a 7. The one sold in Ireland is A1905.

Recovery and repair are not the same job, and doing them in the wrong order can cost you both.
IfThe phone is repairable
Repair it first. A working phone gives up its data far more easily and cheaply than a dead one.
IfYou have a cloud backup
Check what is already backed up before paying for anything. Sometimes the answer is that it is all there already, and we would rather tell you that.
IfThe storage chip itself is damaged
Be prepared for the answer to be no. We will say so plainly rather than charging you to find out slowly.
IfIt still powers on at all
Start there. A device that boots, even badly, is far more likely to give its data up than one that does not.
IfThe screen is broken but the device works
Often the simplest case of all. A working device with a dead display can usually be read once it can be seen.
If you are not sure which of these you have, that is what the free diagnostic is for. It costs nothing and it is the step that stops people paying for the wrong repair.
What parts do we fit?
Where Apple supplies a service part for this component, that is what goes in. Where it does not, we fit premium aftermarket and say so. Which of the two you are getting is settled before you agree to anything, and the 360-day warranty does not change between them.
We will not describe a part as genuine, original or Apple certified unless that is what is going into your phone. If the honest answer is premium aftermarket, that is what we say at the counter.

Is anything on the device at risk?
This is hardware work. We do not need to go into your photos, messages or accounts to do it, and we do not.
We do need to switch the device on and use it to test the repair, so we may ask for your passcode. If you would rather not hand it over, tell us and we will show you what we cannot verify without it. Any passcode you give us goes on the paper docket and the docket gets shredded. It is never stored in our system.
Back the device up before any repair. Not because we expect to lose anything, but because a device that has already been dropped is one whose storage has already been shaken, and a backup costs nothing.
What about the water resistance?
Treat the device as no longer water resistant after any repair, including this one.
An IP rating is measured on a brand new, factory sealed device in a laboratory. It is a description of how that device left the factory, not a property it keeps. Heat, age and everyday knocks degrade the seal long before anybody opens it, which is why phones that have never been repaired still let water in.
Opening a device means cutting through adhesive. We refit with fresh adhesive, which gives you back a physical seal that keeps rain and splashes out. What we will not do is claim the original rating is restored, because there is no way for us or for any independent shop in Ireland to test that.
If the device lives near water, tell us when you book. It changes what we recommend and it is a two minute conversation rather than a surprise afterwards.
The 360-day warranty
Every completed repair is covered for 360 days on the part and the workmanship. If the display we fitted fails, or the fitting was at fault, we put it right at no charge.
What it does not cover is a new accident. A phone dropped again after the repair, fresh physical damage, liquid damage, or a fault in a part we did not touch, all sit outside it. That is the same limit any honest repair warranty has.
No fix, no fee. The diagnostic is free, and if the repair does not happen you pay nothing.
