The iPhone 8 Plus came out in 2017, with a 5.5 inch Retina HD LCD display and the A11 Bionic chip. Charging is over Lightning and it unlocks with Touch ID in the home button. There is an aluminium frame, and it is rated IP67. Home button, two cameras side by side, and a glass back rather than the 7 Plus's aluminium. What a rear camera repair actually fixes.
- A rattle when the camera opensThe stabiliser has come loose. You can hear it if you shake the phone gently near your ear, and it will not settle on its own.
- Cracked glass over the lensesSeparate from the rear panel on most models. Fragments sit directly in the light path, which is why photos go hazy or flared.
- Spots or haze in every photoDust or moisture behind the lens. It shows worst against a bright sky.

Is it definitely the camera?
Cameras are the repair where software and hardware look most alike from the outside, so it is worth checking two things before booking.
IfPhotos are hazy but the glass looks intact
Look at the lens in a strong light for internal condensation. If there is moisture behind it this is liquid damage, and a new camera fitted into a wet phone will fog too.
IfIt rattles constantly, not just in the camera app
Something else is loose in the phone. Worth a diagnostic rather than assuming the camera.
IfThe lens glass looks cracked in a raking light
That is the cover glass and not the camera. It is the cheaper of the two by a distance.
IfThe glass is clean and it still will not focus
The module itself. Replacement rather than a clean.
IfIt is only bad in low light
Compare it against another phone of the same model first. Some of what people take for a fault is how the phone has always performed.

What parts do we fit?
Genuine Apple service parts where they exist for the component, and premium aftermarket where they do not. You are told which one your repair uses before you agree to it, and the 360-day warranty is the same either way.
We will not describe a part as genuine, original or Apple certified unless that is what is going into your phone. If the honest answer is premium aftermarket, that is what we say at the counter.

Check whether it is the lens cover glass rather than the module first. That is a different and much cheaper part, and half the blurry cameras that come in here need it rather than a camera.

Will my data be safe?
Nothing about this repair requires reading what is on the device, and nobody here does.
Testing is a different matter. To prove a repair works we have to turn the device on and use it, which sometimes means asking for your passcode. Say no if you prefer and we will show you exactly which checks we cannot complete without it. Where you do give it, it is written on the paper docket and the docket is shredded. There is deliberately no field for a passcode in our system.
Take a backup before you come in. It is free, it takes two minutes on a device that still works, and it is the one thing nobody regrets having done.
Is it still water resistant afterwards?
Treat the device as no longer water resistant after any repair, including this one.
An IP rating is measured on a brand new, factory sealed device in a laboratory. It is a description of how that device left the factory, not a property it keeps. Heat, age and everyday knocks degrade the seal long before anybody opens it, which is why phones that have never been repaired still let water in.
Opening a device means cutting through adhesive. We refit with fresh adhesive, which gives you back a physical seal that keeps rain and splashes out. What we will not do is claim the original rating is restored, because there is no way for us or for any independent shop in Ireland to test that.
If the device lives near water, tell us when you book. It changes what we recommend and it is a two minute conversation rather than a surprise afterwards.
The 360-day warranty
Every completed repair is covered for 360 days on the part and the workmanship. If the display we fitted fails, or the fitting was at fault, we put it right at no charge.
What it does not cover is a new accident. A phone dropped again after the repair, fresh physical damage, liquid damage, or a fault in a part we did not touch, all sit outside it. That is the same limit any honest repair warranty has.
No fix, no fee. The diagnostic is free, and if the repair does not happen you pay nothing.
