The MacBook Air 15-inch (M3) came out in 2024, with a 15.3 inch Liquid Retina LCD display and the M3 chip. It carries MagSafe 3, two Thunderbolt and headphone and it unlocks with Touch ID in the power button. There is an aluminium frame. A large, very thin laptop with a notch, a flat wedge-free body and no HDMI or SD slot. The absence of those two ports is what separates an Air from a Pro. The one sold in Ireland is A3114.

What this fixes

What a charging port repair actually fixes.

  • Will not charge at allNothing when you plug in. Sometimes the port, sometimes the cable, occasionally the battery or the board, which is why we look first.
  • The cable feels looseA plug that no longer clicks in is telling you the port has worn or something is packed into it.
  • It charges from a plug but the computer will not see itData pins rather than power pins. Same port, and it tells us which side of it has failed.
  • The cable falls out on its ownLint packed behind the contacts, or a port whose retention clips have worn. The first is a clean and the second is a replacement.
  • It got hot around the port while chargingStop using that cable. A hot port is worth looking at before it takes the board with it.
  • It stopped charging after a soakingDo not plug it in. Charging through a corroded port is what turns a repairable phone into a board job.
Before you spend anything

Is it definitely the charging port?

This is the repair most often quoted when it is not needed, so it is worth going through properly.

IfIt stopped charging suddenly with no drop
Try another cable and another plug first. Cables fail far more often than ports and it costs nothing to rule out.
IfIt charges when you press the plug in hard
Very often compacted pocket lint rather than a failed port. We clean and test before quoting a replacement, and frequently the clean is the whole repair.
IfIt got wet and then stopped charging
This is a liquid damage assessment first. Corrosion spreads, and fitting a new port onto a corroding board wastes the part.
IfThe phone is dead and does not respond to any charger
Start with a diagnostic. A dead phone is not the same problem as a bad port, and we would rather find out which before you pay.
IfTwo different cables both fail
Now it is the phone. One cable failing is a cable; two is a port.

If you are not sure which of these you have, that is what the free diagnostic is for. It costs nothing and it is the step that stops people paying for the wrong repair.

What parts do we fit?

Two tiers, and you choose knowing which is which: a genuine Apple service part where one is made for this component, or premium aftermarket where none is. The warranty is 360 days on either.

Nobody here will call a part original when it is not. If what fits your laptop is premium aftermarket, you hear that word at the counter rather than reading it on a docket afterwards.

Genuine, OEM and aftermarket: what the words actually mean

    What the €110 includes

    • The port inspected and cleaned before anything is replaced
    • A replacement charging assembly where cleaning is not enough
    • Charging and data transfer both tested
    • 360-day warranty on the part and the workmanship

No additional paid work happens without your approval. If the diagnostic finds something behind the part we are replacing, we stop, explain it and confirm the cost first.

A collection and return across Dublin can be added when you book. The repair price and the warranty are the same either way.

    Choose the part

Two tiers, named before you agree.

A charging port is a flex assembly rather than a tuned component, so the tier matters less here than almost anywhere else.

    iMEND Premium

    Original or manufacturer-grade part

The manufacturer's own flex. Worth it on a phone still under its own warranty or one you intend to keep for years.

    Priced at the counter

    Value Edition

Premium aftermarket, tested to the same standard

Made to the original specification and, on a port, genuinely hard to fault. Fast charging negotiates the same, data works the same, and it costs less.

    Priced at the counter

The €110 on this page is our standard quote for this repair. Which tier suits your device is a conversation at the counter, and the price for each is on the table before you decide. The 360-day warranty is the same on both, because we would not offer a tier we did not think would last.

This is one of the repairs where we will tell you to take the cheaper tier and put the difference towards a case. The part is not where a port repair goes wrong; the fitting is.

The parts we use, in full

    How we do it

From the counter to back in your hand.

Tell us what it is doing

Two minutes online, or straight in the door at 4 Richmond Road. The more you can say about when it started, the faster we get to the cause.

    Free diagnostic

Nothing is opened or ordered until we know what failed. There is no charge for this and no obligation to go ahead afterwards.

    You approve the price

You get the exact figure before any work starts. Nothing else happens without asking you first.

    The repair is carried out

Carried out here in Drumcondra rather than sent away, by people who do this repair daily.

    Bench testing

The repaired function and the things around it are checked before we call you.

    Back in your hands

Yours again, from the counter or by courier, with 360 days of cover on the part and the work.

    Before it goes back

    What we test every time.

A repair is not finished when the part is fitted. It is finished when the things around it have been checked.

    Plug retention

The cable should click and hold with no angle needed. If it does not, the job is not finished.

    Microphone and speaker

Both sit on or beside the charging assembly on most phones and both get disturbed during the repair.

    Cable retention

A cable that will not stay in is not a repair we call finished.

    Fast charge negotiation

Checked with a charger that supports it, because a port can charge slowly and look fine.

What happens to what is on it?

This is hardware work. We do not need to go into your photos, messages or accounts to do it, and we do not.

We do need to switch the device on and use it to test the repair, so we may ask for your passcode. If you would rather not hand it over, tell us and we will show you what we cannot verify without it. Any passcode you give us goes on the paper docket and the docket gets shredded. It is never stored in our system.

Back the device up before any repair. Not because we expect to lose anything, but because a device that has already been dropped is one whose storage has already been shaken, and a backup costs nothing.

Will it still survive a splash?

Treat the device as no longer water resistant after any repair, including this one.

An IP rating is measured on a brand new, factory sealed device in a laboratory. It is a description of how that device left the factory, not a property it keeps. Heat, age and everyday knocks degrade the seal long before anybody opens it, which is why phones that have never been repaired still let water in.

Opening a device means cutting through adhesive. We refit with fresh adhesive, which gives you back a physical seal that keeps rain and splashes out. What we will not do is claim the original rating is restored, because there is no way for us or for any independent shop in Ireland to test that.

If the device lives near water, tell us when you book. It changes what we recommend and it is a two minute conversation rather than a surprise afterwards.

    The 360-day warranty

Every completed repair is covered for 360 days on the part and the workmanship. If the display we fitted fails, or the fitting was at fault, we put it right at no charge.

What it does not cover is a new accident. A phone dropped again after the repair, fresh physical damage, liquid damage, or a fault in a part we did not touch, all sit outside it. That is the same limit any honest repair warranty has.

No fix, no fee. The diagnostic is free, and if the repair does not happen you pay nothing.

Three ways to get it to us

    • Walk in to Drumcondra4 Richmond Road, Dublin 3. No appointment. Mon to Sat 10:00 to 18:00, closed Sunday. Most phone screens and batteries done in 15 to 45 minutes while you wait.
    • We collect and returnDoor to door across Dublin, Monday to Friday, usually 2 to 4 working days. The repair takes the same time; the courier is the difference.
    • Send it in yourselfPost it to the shop with a tracked, insured service and a note with your number. We cannot cover a parcel in transit, and that is the honest trade-off for the route existing.

Same repair price and the same 360-day warranty on all three. The only thing that changes is how the device travels.

    Asked all the time

MacBook Air 15-inch (M3) screen questions.

€110, including the part, the fitting, the testing and the 360-day warranty. VAT is included. You get that figure confirmed before anything is opened, and if we cannot repair the phone you pay nothing.

Usually same day. If the diagnostic turns up something else, or a part has to be ordered, we tell you before you commit rather than after.

Very often, and it is the first thing we check. Pocket lint compacts at the bottom of the port a little further with every cable insertion until the plug can no longer reach the pins. Where a clean fixes it, that is what you pay for.

Carefully, with the phone off and a wooden toothpick. Never a pin or a paperclip, and never compressed air into the port. Bent pins turn a free clean into a paid replacement.

Usually same day. On many devices the port is a plug-in flex and it is quick; on others it is soldered to the board and that is bench work rather than counter work.

Almost always lint and sideways force. Charging with the phone in a pocket, or lying on a bed with the cable under tension, pushes against a connector that was designed to take the plug straight in and nothing else.

It will charge at the speed the phone was designed for, which is faster than a worn port manages. It will not make the phone charge faster than it did when it was new.

iMEND is an independent repair service. Brand and model names are used only to describe the devices we repair. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or an authorised service provider for any manufacturer.

    Why bring it here

An independent workshop, not a kiosk.

We are a dedicated repair bench in Dublin 3. That means we take on work authorised channels turn away, and we tell you honestly when something is not worth fixing.

    Diagnosed, not guessed

Every device is tested before we quote, so you are not paying for a part that was never the problem.

    Parts that last

Genuine or OEM-grade components chosen for your model. We tell you which is going in before we start.

    Your data stays yours

Hardware-only repairs. We never read, copy or move anything on your device.

    No fix, no fee
