Repairs for schools and colleges.

A classroom set with a dozen cracked screens is not twelve repairs, it is one job. Schools work to a budget and a term, and both of those change how a repair should be quoted.

Why school devices break the way they do.

A one-to-one iPad programme puts a tablet in the hands of a twelve-year-old for six hours a day, and the failures are consistent: cracked glass from a bag drop, charging ports packed with pocket lint, and batteries that no longer make it to the end of the day by the third year of the programme.

Chromebooks and school laptops fail differently. Hinges crack where the lid has been carried by the screen, keyboards lose keys, and charging ports come loose from being plugged in at an angle a thousand times. All of those are cheap parts and quick work when they are done in a batch.

None of it needs a new device, which is the point. A school replacing a classroom set because the screens are cracked is spending several times what repairing them costs.

How a batch is handled.

It starts with an assessment, and that is free. A crate of devices comes in or is collected, each one is checked, and you get back a list: device, fault, price, and whether we recommend the repair at all. A device that is past its useful life is flagged as such rather than quietly repaired.

Nothing is worked on until that list is approved. Schools have to get spending signed off and a surprise invoice is worse than a slow one, so the price is fixed per device before any work starts.

Repairs are then done as a batch and returned together, which is both faster and cheaper than sending them one at a time. Timing can be worked around a term: mid-term and the summer are the obvious windows and they are worth booking ahead of.

  • A written list: device, fault, price, recommendation
  • Nothing repaired until the list is approved

  • Work scheduled around term dates
  • 360-day warranty on every completed repair

Data, and the things schools have to ask.

Repairs are hardware only. Nothing on a device is read, copied or moved, which matters more in a school than almost anywhere because the devices belong to children.

If devices are supervised through Apple School Manager or a similar system, tell us before the repair. It rarely affects the work itself but it can affect testing afterwards, and that is better sorted out in advance.

Devices that are beyond repair can be traded in rather than binned, wiped and with account locks cleared, and the credit goes against the rest of the batch.

Asked all the time

Per device, in writing, before anything is repaired. You get a list showing each device, its fault, the price and whether we think it is worth doing at all.

Yes, weekdays across Dublin. They are collected, assessed, repaired once approved, and returned together.

That is usually the sensible way to do it, and those windows book up, so it is worth arranging in advance.

Yes, alongside iPads and MacBooks. Hinges, keyboards, screens, charging ports and batteries are the common school faults and all of them are routine.

No. Repairs are hardware only and nothing is read, copied or moved.

It is flagged on the list rather than repaired, and there is nothing to pay for the assessment. If you want, we will price it as a trade-in and put the credit against the rest of the batch.

Yes. Anything that comes in with a device goes back with it, and asset labels are left where they are.

No. A single iPad is welcome and so is a crate of forty.
