iPad: cracked screen that still works
Older iPads have a separate touch glass from the display, so cracked glass over a working screen is genuinely the cheaper of the two repairs. On iPad Air, Pro and the newer bases the two are laminated and replaced together.

What causes it
- Glass has broken but the display and digitiser underneath are intact
- A single impact point with cracks radiating out, which is the usual pattern
- Edge damage, which is the most likely to spread
- Pressure from a swollen battery underneath, which is a different problem
What to do right now
- Put a screen protector or tape over it to stop it shedding glass
- Look at whether the crack reaches the edge, because those spread
- Check for any dead touch areas by dragging a finger across the whole screen
- Do not press hard on the cracked area
What we check at the bench.
- Whether the digitiser and display are genuinely undamaged
- The frame for bending, which stops a new screen sitting flat
- Whether the battery underneath is swollen and caused it
- Sensors, front camera and the earpiece, which all live in the screen assembly

Screen Repair starts from €85 depending on the model. No fix, no fee, so if we cannot repair it you pay nothing.
On older iPads the touch glass is a separate part from the LCD, so a cracked front is the cheaper of the two repairs. On iPad Air, Pro and the newer bases the two are laminated together and replaced as one, which costs more. Tell us the model and we will say which yours is.
Worth doing sooner rather than later. Cracked glass flexes, and the flex is what eventually kills the digitiser or the panel behind it. It also sheds splinters, which is the reason most people bring them in.
We use genuine Apple and Samsung service parts where they are available, and premium aftermarket panels where they are not. We tell you which one is going in your device before we start, and the price reflects it.
Usually not. On almost every modern phone the glass, the touch layer and the display are bonded into one assembly, so the whole part is replaced even when only the glass is broken. Separating them is possible on some models but costs more in labour than the assembly saves.
Yes. We test touch across the whole panel, plus brightness, the sensors and the front camera cutout, before the device goes back to you. If anything reads differently we refit it rather than hand it over.
It is worth it. A tempered glass protector takes the first impact and costs a fraction of a second screen repair. We fit one while you wait if you want it.
On almost every modern phone, no. The glass, the touch layer and the display are bonded into one assembly at the factory, so the whole assembly is what gets replaced. Anyone offering to change only the glass is either separating and rebonding it, which fails, or talking about a different device.
It is not urgent, but a crack lets dust and moisture into the panel and it spreads. The repair does not get harder, it just becomes a repair you did not choose the timing of. Touch failing suddenly is the usual way people find out.
Almost always yes. Lines, blotches and a screen that is half black are panel failures rather than board failures, and a screen replacement fixes them. We check before quoting, because occasionally it is the connector rather than the panel.
It should be indistinguishable, and we test touch across the whole panel before handing it back rather than just the middle. Edge response is where a poorly fitted screen shows itself, so that is where we check hardest.
Customer reviews
The screen stopped working on my iPhone 13 mini - it had recently been repaired elsewhere. I got a warm welcome in the shop, and a phone to borrow while mine was in for diagnostics and repair. An issue with the battery was also detected and I am very happy with the new screen and battery and appreciated the excellent service and communication.
