Mac will not turn on
A MacBook that shows nothing but has a working fan is usually a display or backlight fault rather than a dead machine, and that is the cheaper end. Board-level repair is also realistic on Macs: a lot of what gets quoted elsewhere as a full logic board is one component.
Mon to Sat 10 to 6
What causes it
- A dead battery combined with a failed charger, which is the common pair
- A failed charging circuit on the board
- A display or backlight fault on a machine that is actually running
- Board failure, often after liquid or a drop
What to do right now
- Check whether any light comes on at all when the charger is connected
- Listen for the fan, which tells you the machine is running even with no picture
- Try an external monitor, because that separates display from board in one step
- Hold the power button for thirty seconds, then try again on charger only
What we check at the bench.
- Whether the board draws current, which is the first fork in the road
- Charger output and the charging circuit
- Power rails in sequence to find where it stops
- Whether your data is recoverable, in parallel, so you are not waiting on the repair

Dead Device Diagnostic starts from €26 depending on the model. No fix, no fee, so if we cannot repair it you pay nothing.
Yes, because dead rarely means dead. The usual causes are a failed battery, a charging port that stopped delivering power, or a board fault after a drop or a spill, and the first two are routine repairs. The diagnostic is free, so finding out costs you nothing.
Whether it draws any current at all, which tells us straight away if this is a battery and port problem or a board problem. From there we work through power rails on the bench. You get a plain answer and a price before anything is replaced.
Usually yes, and that is a separate job to reviving the device. Even where a board is beyond economic repair we can often recover what is on the storage.
Walk in. We are at 4 Richmond Road, Drumcondra, Dublin 3, open Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm and Saturday 10am to 5pm. Closed Sunday. You can also book online and we will confirm a slot, or ask us to collect the device anywhere in Dublin, Monday to Friday.
On older models, yes. On Apple silicon and most recent Intel MacBooks, memory and storage are soldered to the board and cannot be changed. Tell us the model and we will say straight away.
You pay nothing. No fix, no fee covers the diagnostic and the handling, so the only time you pay is when the device comes back working. If a repair turns out to cost more than the device is worth, we tell you that instead of doing it.
Usually. A phone that shows nothing is often a phone whose screen is dead rather than a phone that is dead, and the two look identical from the outside. Finding out which is free.
Yes, anywhere in Dublin, Monday to Friday. Tell us where you are and we arrange a time. Outside Dublin we are not set up for collection, so the device would need to come to the shop.
For most screen and battery work, 15 to 45 minutes, and people wait in the shop. Anything that has to come apart further, or that we want to run for a while before handing back, we tell you the day rather than guess at an hour.
That depends on what the device is worth and what the repair costs, and we will tell you honestly when the sums do not work. Turning away a job we could have charged for is the reason people come back.
