Samsung: stuck on the logo, or restarting in a loop

Galaxy boot loops after an update can often be cleared from recovery without losing anything, and we try that route first. If it is storage, recovery comes before anything else.

What causes it

  • A failed or interrupted software update
  • Storage that is failing, which stops the system loading
  • A hardware fault that only shows once the device tries to boot
  • Liquid damage a week or two earlier, which is more common than people connect

What to do right now

  • Stop power cycling it. Each loop is another chance to lose data
  • Note whether it got wet, dropped or updated recently
  • Do not factory reset it if the data matters, because that is not reversible
  • Bring it in before trying recovery tools you found online
The diagnostic

What we check at the bench.

  • Whether the fault is software or hardware, before anything is erased
  • Storage health, which is the usual cause when it is hardware
  • The board for corrosion if there is any history of liquid
  • What can be recovered first, if the data is the priority

A failed or interrupted software update. Storage that is failing, which stops the system loading

We quote it after a free diagnostic, because the price depends on what we find. No fix, no fee, so if we cannot repair it you pay nothing.

Yes, because dead rarely means dead. The usual causes are a failed battery, a charging port that stopped delivering power, or a board fault after a drop or a spill, and the first two are routine repairs. The diagnostic is free, so finding out costs you nothing.

Whether it draws any current at all, which tells us straight away if this is a battery and port problem or a board problem. From there we work through power rails on the bench. You get a plain answer and a price before anything is replaced.

Usually yes, and that is a separate job to reviving the device. Even where a board is beyond economic repair we can often recover what is on the storage.

Yes, and it is worth saying so at the counter, because a previous repair changes where we look first. Bring any screws or parts you were given back.

No. These are hardware repairs and we do not open, copy or erase anything on the device. Back it up first anyway, because any device that already has a fault can fail further while it is being worked on.

Walk in. We are at 4 Richmond Road, Drumcondra, Dublin 3, open Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm and Saturday 10am to 5pm. Closed Sunday. You can also book online and we will confirm a slot, or ask us to collect the device anywhere in Dublin, Monday to Friday.

On models where the reader is under the display it is part of the screen assembly, so it is replaced with it and calibrated afterwards. We test it before handing the phone back. On models with a side-mounted reader it is untouched.

Yes, anywhere in Dublin, Monday to Friday. Tell us where you are and we arrange a time. Outside Dublin we are not set up for collection, so the device would need to come to the shop.

Yes for ordinary screen, battery and port work. Knox is a security flag tied to the software, not to these parts, and normal hardware repairs do not trip it.

That depends on what the device is worth and what the repair costs, and we will tell you honestly when the sums do not work. Turning away a job we could have charged for is the reason people come back.

As I'm a lawyer, I need a reliable phone. For me, it's an office extension in my pocket. I decided to buy a Samsung S23 Ultra. I live in Drumcondra so being aware of their excellent reputation locally, I visited iMend last week. The manager and assistant could not have been more helpful. I bought the phone and it exceeds my expectations. On checking, the price was the lowest in Dublin. Anyone who needs a phone or a small electronic product will be well looked after by iMend. Great people to deal with!
