The iPad (8th gen) came out in 2020, with a 10.2 inch Retina LCD display and the A12 Bionic chip. Charging is over Lightning and it unlocks with Touch ID in the home button. There is an aluminium frame. A home button and a Lightning port, and a 1.2MP front camera rather than the 9th generation's 12MP one. A2270 is the model sold here.

What this fixes

What a battery replacement actually fixes.

  • Dies in the coldChemistry, not a fault in itself. A healthy battery slows in the cold and recovers; a worn one drops off a cliff and does not come back until it is charged.
  • Hot while charging, or hot doing nothingWorth looking at rather than living with. Heat is what ages a battery fastest, so a hot battery gets worse quicker.
  • It dies at twenty percent and comes back when you plug it inA cell that can no longer hold voltage under load. It is the clearest single sign a battery is finished.
  • Charging stops well short of a hundred percentSometimes battery health management doing its job, sometimes the cell. Worth checking which before replacing anything.
  • The phone is hot on the back doing very littleA cell working harder than it should. Heat and short life travel together.
  • The case no longer sits flat on a tableA swelling cell, and this one is urgent. Stop charging it and bring it in.
Before you spend anything

Is it definitely the battery?

A battery is the right answer most of the time, and it is worth ruling out the two things that imitate it.

IfIt drains fast but only since a recent update or a new app
Check Settings, Battery for what is actually using it before replacing anything. Software can empty a healthy battery in a morning, and a new cell will not fix that.
IfThe phone is dead and will not power on at all
Start with a diagnostic rather than a battery. A dead phone can be the battery, the port or the board, and we would rather find out before you pay for a part.
IfThe glass is lifting off the frame
Replace the battery, and do it soon. Fitting a new screen over a swelling battery just breaks the new screen.
IfIt got much worse right after a software update
Give it a few days. Reindexing after an update genuinely does flatten a phone, and it settles.
IfCharging is slow as well as short
Check the port before the battery. A dirty port charges slowly and a worn cell empties quickly, and they are two different repairs.

If you are not sure which of these you have, that is what the free diagnostic is for. It costs nothing and it is the step that stops people paying for the wrong repair.

What parts do we fit?

Genuine Apple service parts where they exist for the component, and premium aftermarket where they do not. You are told which one your repair uses before you agree to it, and the 360-day warranty is the same either way.

The words genuine and Apple certified mean something specific and we only use them when they are true of the part in front of us. Anything else is described as premium aftermarket, plainly.

  • An iPad battery is glued across most of the chassis. Removing it without bending it is the whole job, and it is why an iPad battery takes longer than a phone's.

Genuine, OEM and aftermarket: what the words actually mean

What the €90 includes

  • A new battery, fitted and cycled
  • The old cell removed and recycled properly
  • Charging, current draw and health checked after fitting
  • 360-day warranty on the part and the workmanship

Nothing extra gets done and charged for without you saying yes to it. Where the diagnostic turns up a second fault, the work stops there and you hear the price before it goes any further.

A collection and return across Dublin can be added when you book. The repair price and the warranty are the same either way.

Choose the part

Two tiers, named before you agree.

On a battery the tier is not about how it looks. It is about whether the cell holds the capacity printed on it.

iMEND Premium

Original or manufacturer-grade part

The manufacturer's own cell. On an iPhone it keeps the battery health readout working without a service notice, which is the practical difference most people notice.

€120

Value Edition

Premium aftermarket, tested to the same standard

A cell made to the original specification with cycle data behind it. We will fit this happily; what we will not fit is a cell nobody can tell us how it was stored or what it tested at.

€90

The €90 on this page is our standard quote for this repair. Which tier suits your device is a conversation at the counter, and the price for each is on the table before you decide. The 360-day warranty is the same on both, because we would not offer a tier we did not think would last.

A cell sold as 3,300mAh that actually holds 2,900 shows full health on day one and falls off a cliff at eight months. That is the entire reason we are not the cheapest battery in Dublin.

The parts we use, in full

How we do it

From the counter to back in your hand.

Tell us what it is doing

Walk in during opening hours or book ahead, whichever suits. Tell us what the device is actually doing rather than what you think the fix is.

Free diagnostic

Before a part is ordered we establish what has really gone wrong. It is free, and it is the reason people do not leave here having paid for the wrong thing.

You approve the price

The price is confirmed to you before anything begins, and it does not move afterwards unless you agree to something else.

The repair is carried out

It stays in the shop. The work is done on our own bench by the technicians who do it every day of the week.

Bench testing

Nothing is handed back untested. The repaired part and its neighbours are all checked first.

Back in your hands

Collected from Drumcondra, or returned to your door if we picked it up. Covered for 360 days.

Before it goes back

What we test every time.

A repair is not finished when the part is fitted. It is finished when the things around it have been checked.

Current under load

Checked while the phone is working, which is where a bad cell shows itself and a resting one does not.

Health reporting

What the device reports about the new cell, so you know before you leave rather than a week later.

Heat

Felt and measured while charging. A battery that runs hot from day one is going back out.

Health reporting after the swap

Confirmed in settings where the device reports it, so you can see the number for yourself before you leave.

Is anything on the device at risk?

We are replacing a part, not reading a phone. Your photos, messages and accounts are not something this job touches.

The one place it comes up is testing. A repair is not finished until it has been used, and using a locked device means a passcode. You are welcome to withhold it, and we will tell you which checks that leaves undone rather than quietly skipping them. A passcode you do give us lives on a paper docket that gets shredded, never in a database.

Back it up first if you can. A device that has taken a knock has had its storage shaken whether or not anything looks wrong, and a backup is free insurance against the day that matters.

Will it still survive a splash?

After any repair, ours included, work on the assumption that the device is no longer water resistant.

The rating on the box was measured once, on a sealed unit, in controlled conditions. It was never a promise about the device three years later. Adhesive hardens, seals compress and a single drop can break the seal without leaving a mark you would notice.

We reseal with fresh adhesive and it does a real job: rain, splashes and a wet counter are all fine. A submerged phone is not, and we would rather say that plainly than let you find out.

If yours goes near water regularly, say so at the counter and we will tell you what the adhesive covers and what it does not.

The 360-day warranty

Every completed repair is covered for 360 days on the part and the workmanship. If the display we fitted fails, or the fitting was at fault, we put it right at no charge.

What it does not cover is a new accident. A phone dropped again after the repair, fresh physical damage, liquid damage, or a fault in a part we did not touch, all sit outside it. That is the same limit any honest repair warranty has.

No fix, no fee. The diagnostic is free, and if the repair does not happen you pay nothing.

Three ways to get it to us

  • Walk in to Drumcondra4 Richmond Road, Dublin 3. No appointment. Mon to Sat 10:00 to 18:00, closed Sunday. Most phone screens and batteries done in 15 to 45 minutes while you wait.
  • We collect and returnDoor to door across Dublin, Monday to Friday, usually 2 to 4 working days. The repair takes the same time; the courier is the difference.
  • Send it in yourselfPost it to the shop with a tracked, insured service and a note with your number. We cannot cover a parcel in transit, and that is the honest trade-off for the route existing.

Same repair price and the same 360-day warranty on all three. The only thing that changes is how the device travels.

Asked all the time

iPad (8th gen) screen questions.

€90, including the part, the fitting, the testing and the 360-day warranty. VAT is included. You get that figure confirmed before anything is opened, and if we cannot repair the phone you pay nothing.

15 to 45 minutes for most phones. If the diagnostic turns up something else, or a part has to be ordered, we tell you before you commit rather than after.

No. This is hardware work and we do not go into your photos, messages or accounts. Back the phone up before any repair as a matter of course.

Rarely, for a battery. A battery is the cheapest repair that makes an old phone feel new, and on most models it costs a fraction of a replacement handset. If we think you would be throwing good money after bad we will say so.

It can, and not because the battery is a speed part. Phones slow themselves down to avoid shutting off when a cell can no longer deliver peak current. Replace the cell and that throttling stops.

Treat it as urgent. Stop charging it, stop using it, and do not press on the back or try to lever the phone open. Bring it in and we will deal with it properly.

Yes, until it starts shutting down unexpectedly or the case stops sitting flat. Either of those is the point where it stops being a convenience question.

iMEND is an independent repair service. Brand and model names are used only to describe the devices we repair. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or an authorised service provider for any manufacturer.

Why bring it here

An independent workshop, not a kiosk.

We are a dedicated repair bench in Dublin 3. That means we take on work authorised channels turn away, and we tell you honestly when something is not worth fixing.

Diagnosed, not guessed

Every device is tested before we quote, so you are not paying for a part that was never the problem.

Parts that last

Genuine or OEM-grade components chosen for your model. We tell you which is going in before we start.

Your data stays yours

Hardware-only repairs. We never read, copy or move anything on your device.

No fix, no fee

If we cannot repair it, there is nothing to pay. No diagnostic fee, no handling charge.
