The MacBook Pro 14-inch (M1 Pro/Max) arrived in 2021, with a 14.2 inch Liquid Retina XDR, mini-LED display and the M1 Pro or M1 Max chip. The ports are MagSafe 3, three Thunderbolt 4, HDMI, SD card and headphone and it unlocks with Touch ID in the power button. There is an aluminium frame. The redesign that brought back MagSafe, HDMI and the SD card slot, dropped the Touch Bar and put a notch in the screen. A2442 is the model sold here.

What this fixes

The faults a front camera repair puts right.

  • Blurry or hazy selfiesOften condensation or dust behind the lens rather than a broken camera.
  • Face or fingerprint unlock has stopped working tooImportant to mention. The the biometric sensor components share the assembly, and that changes the job.
  • The screen stays lit against your ear on a callThe proximity sensor sits in the same assembly and is a common casualty.
  • Face unlock has stopped as wellOn phones where the unlock hardware sits beside the front camera, one impact takes both. Say so, because it changes the part.
  • A dark ring or vignette around every selfieThe lens cover or the module seating. Both are in the display assembly on most phones.
  • Video calls show a black frameThe module has failed rather than degraded. It does not come back.
Before you spend anything

Is it definitely the front camera?

The front camera shares its assembly with Face ID and the proximity sensor, so what else is failing tells us a lot.

IfThe camera is black but Face ID still works
That points at the camera module alone, which is the simpler and cheaper of the two jobs.
IfBoth the camera and Face ID have stopped
The whole assembly or its connector. Worth a diagnostic first, because Face ID components are paired to the phone and not every fault is fixable by swapping a part.
IfIt stopped right after a screen repair somewhere else
The front camera and Face ID transfer across during a screen replacement, and a rushed transfer is the usual cause. Bring it in and we will tell you what we find.
IfFace unlock stopped at the same time
Say so at the counter. On several phones that is a different and more involved part than the camera alone.
IfIt went soft with no drop and no repair
Sometimes the adhesive holding the lens has failed. It is still a module job and it is not expensive.

If you are not sure which of these you have, that is what the free diagnostic is for. It costs nothing and it is the step that stops people paying for the wrong repair.

What parts do we fit?

Where Apple supplies a service part for this component, that is what goes in. Where it does not, we fit premium aftermarket and say so. Which of the two you are getting is settled before you agree to anything, and the 360-day warranty does not change between them.

Nobody here will call a part original when it is not. If what fits your laptop is premium aftermarket, you hear that word at the counter rather than reading it on a docket afterwards.

Genuine, OEM and aftermarket: what the words actually mean

    What the Diagnostic includes

    • The replacement front camera assembly fitted
    • Proximity and ambient light sensors checked
    • Face ID tested where it is part of the assembly
    • 360-day warranty on the part and the workmanship

No additional paid work happens without your approval. If the diagnostic finds something behind the part we are replacing, we stop, explain it and confirm the cost first.

Diagnostics from €25. A clean-up check is free.

A collection and return across Dublin can be added when you book. The repair price and the warranty are the same either way.

    Choose the part

Two tiers, named before you agree.

The front camera rides in the display assembly on most phones, so the tier conversation usually happens alongside the screen one.

    iMEND Premium

    Original or manufacturer-grade part

The manufacturer's own module, and the safest option where face unlock hardware sits beside it.

    Priced at the counter

    Value Edition

Premium aftermarket, tested to the same standard

Made to the original specification. On a front camera the difference is small and the saving is real.

    Priced at the counter

The price for this repair is confirmed after a diagnostic. Which tier suits your device is a conversation at the counter, and the price for each is on the table before you decide. The 360-day warranty is the same on both, because we would not offer a tier we did not think would last.

Tell us if face unlock stopped at the same time. On several phones that is a different and more involved part than the camera on its own, and it changes what we order.

The parts we use, in full

    How we do it

From the counter to back in your hand.

Tell us what it is doing

Walk in during opening hours or book ahead, whichever suits. Tell us what the device is actually doing rather than what you think the fix is.

    Diagnostic

We confirm what has actually failed before anything is ordered or opened. It costs nothing and it is the step that stops people paying for the wrong repair.

    You approve the price

The price is confirmed to you before anything begins, and it does not move afterwards unless you agree to something else.

    The repair is carried out

It stays in the shop. The work is done on our own bench by the technicians who do it every day of the week.

    Bench testing

We test what we replaced and everything that sits beside it, because that is where a rushed repair shows up.

    Back in your hands

Pick it up from Richmond Road or have it couriered back across Dublin. Either way it carries the 360-day warranty.

    Before it goes back

    What we test every time.

A repair is not finished when the part is fitted. It is finished when the things around it have been checked.

    Photo and video

Both, because a module can pass one and fail the other.

    Face or fingerprint unlock

Where it shares the assembly, tested before the phone goes back.

    Stills and video

Both, because a module can pass one and fail the other.

The earpiece and the sensors beside it

All of them ride in the same assembly and all of them get disturbed.

    Will my data be safe?

We are replacing a part, not reading a phone. Your photos, messages and accounts are not something this job touches.

The one place it comes up is testing. A repair is not finished until it has been used, and using a locked device means a passcode. You are welcome to withhold it, and we will tell you which checks that leaves undone rather than quietly skipping them. A passcode you do give us lives on a paper docket that gets shredded, never in a database.

Back it up first if you can. A device that has taken a knock has had its storage shaken whether or not anything looks wrong, and a backup is free insurance against the day that matters.

Is it still water resistant afterwards?

After any repair, ours included, work on the assumption that the device is no longer water resistant.

The rating on the box was measured once, on a sealed unit, in controlled conditions. It was never a promise about the device three years later. Adhesive hardens, seals compress and a single drop can break the seal without leaving a mark you would notice.

We reseal with fresh adhesive and it does a real job: rain, splashes and a wet counter are all fine. A submerged phone is not, and we would rather say that plainly than let you find out.

If yours goes near water regularly, say so at the counter and we will tell you what the adhesive covers and what it does not.

    The 360-day warranty

Every completed repair is covered for 360 days on the part and the workmanship. If the display we fitted fails, or the fitting was at fault, we put it right at no charge.

What it does not cover is a new accident. A phone dropped again after the repair, fresh physical damage, liquid damage, or a fault in a part we did not touch, all sit outside it. That is the same limit any honest repair warranty has.

No fix, no fee. The diagnostic is from €25, and if the repair does not happen you pay nothing.

Three ways to get it to us

    • Walk in to Drumcondra4 Richmond Road, Dublin 3. No appointment. Mon to Sat 10:00 to 18:00, closed Sunday. Most phone screens and batteries done in 15 to 45 minutes while you wait.
    • We collect and returnDoor to door across Dublin, Monday to Friday, usually 2 to 4 working days. The repair takes the same time; the courier is the difference.
    • Send it in yourselfPost it to the shop with a tracked, insured service and a note with your number. We cannot cover a parcel in transit, and that is the honest trade-off for the route existing.

Same repair price and the same 360-day warranty on all three. The only thing that changes is how the device travels.

    Asked all the time

    MacBook Pro 14-inch (M1 Pro/Max) screen questions.

We quote it after a diagnostic, from €25, because the price depends on what we find. No fix, no fee, so if we cannot repair it you pay nothing.

Usually same day. If the diagnostic turns up something else, or a part has to be ordered, we tell you before you commit rather than after.

A clean-up check is free. Any other diagnostic on the MacBook Pro 14-inch (M1 Pro/Max) is from €25, and you are told the cost before it starts. No additional paid work happens without your approval.

On most models the front camera and the Face ID components are separate parts in one assembly, so the camera can be replaced without touching Face ID. We check yours before we start and tell you if that is not true of your model.

The front camera and Face ID flex have to be transferred to the new display during a screen replacement. Done in a hurry it gets damaged, and that is one of the most common reasons a phone arrives here with a dead selfie camera.

Sometimes, and not always. The dot projector is paired to your phone at the factory, so if that specific component has failed it often cannot be replaced with a working one. We will tell you straight rather than charging you to find out.

Yes, when the job is done properly. On most phones the unlock hardware sits in the same assembly and has to be handled with the camera. That handling is what goes wrong in a rushed repair.

On most phones it is mounted in the display assembly rather than the body, so it comes out with the screen. That is also why it sometimes stops working after a screen repair done badly.

Usually yes. The camera is its own module inside the assembly and it can be swapped on its own.

A front camera module is one of the cheaper parts in a phone, so on most models yes. We will say where it is not.

It can be either, because on most phones the front camera sits in the screen assembly. That is why we diagnose before quoting: replacing a screen to fix a camera fault, or the reverse, is an expensive way to find out.

Yes, anywhere in Dublin, Monday to Friday. Tell us where you are and we arrange a time. Outside Dublin we are not set up for collection, so the device would need to come to the shop.

Most of the time, yes, if we have the part on the shelf. That covers common iPhone and Galaxy screens and batteries. Ring ahead on 085 200 1155 with your model if you are coming across the city and want to be sure.

Yes, including VAT, the part, the fitting and the testing. If we find something else once we are inside, we ring you before doing anything, and you can say no and pay nothing.

Card or cash at the counter when you collect. You get a firm price before any work starts.

iMEND is an independent repair service. Brand and model names are used only to describe the devices we repair. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or an authorised service provider for any manufacturer.

    Why bring it here

An independent workshop, not a kiosk.

We are a dedicated repair bench in Dublin 3. That means we take on work authorised channels turn away, and we tell you honestly when something is not worth fixing.

    Diagnosed, not guessed

Every device is tested before we quote, so you are not paying for a part that was never the problem.

    Parts that last

Genuine or OEM-grade components chosen for your model. We tell you which is going in before we start.

    Your data stays yours

Hardware-only repairs. We never read, copy or move anything on your device.

    No fix, no fee
