What this fixes

The faults a data recovery puts right.

  • It will not turn on and the photos are not backed upThe most common reason people come in for this, and it is often recoverable.
  • It went in water and there is a year of photos on itUrgent. Corrosion is the enemy of recovery and every day counts.
  • The device will not power on and the photos are not backed upThe most common reason people come in for this, and it is often recoverable.
  • It boots to a logo and no furtherSometimes the storage and sometimes software. The two have very different odds.
  • It was dropped and has not started sinceSay so. Physical damage changes the route entirely.
  • It went in waterTime matters here more than anywhere. The sooner it is opened and cleaned the more survives.
Before you spend anything

Is it definitely the storage?

Recovery and repair are not the same job, and doing them in the wrong order can cost you both.

IfIt got wet
Bring it in now and do not charge it. Every day of corrosion reduces what can be recovered.
IfIt still powers on at all
Start there. A device that boots, even badly, is far more likely to give its data up than one that does not.
IfThe screen is broken but the device works
Often the simplest case of all. A working device with a dead display can usually be read once it can be seen.
IfIt has been repeatedly powered on since it failed
Tell us how many times. Repeated attempts on failing storage reduce the odds and we would rather know.
IfThe account password is not known
Say so before we start. There are limits to what anybody can do with a device nobody can sign into, and it is better to know that up front.

If you are not sure which of these you have, that is what the free diagnostic is for. It costs nothing and it is the step that stops people paying for the wrong repair.

What parts do we fit?

Where Apple supplies a service part for this component, that is what goes in. Where it does not, we fit premium aftermarket and say so. Which of the two you are getting is settled before you agree to anything, and the 360-day warranty does not change between them.

We will not describe a part as genuine, original or Apple certified unless that is what is going into your laptop. If the honest answer is premium aftermarket, that is what we say at the counter.

Genuine, OEM and aftermarket: what the words actually mean

    What the €90 includes

    • An assessment of what is recoverable before you commit
    • Recovery attempted to a drive or a device you provide
    • A clear answer when something cannot be recovered
    • Nothing charged for data we cannot get back

No additional paid work happens without your approval. If the diagnostic finds something behind the part we are replacing, we stop, explain it and confirm the cost first.

Diagnostics from €25. A clean-up check is free.

A collection and return across Dublin can be added when you book. The repair price and the warranty are the same either way.

    How we do it

From the counter to back in your hand.

Tell us what it is doing

Walk in during opening hours or book ahead, whichever suits. Tell us what the device is actually doing rather than what you think the fix is.

    Diagnostic

We confirm what has actually failed before anything is ordered or opened. It costs nothing and it is the step that stops people paying for the wrong repair.

    You approve the price

You hear the number first. If it is not worth it to you, that is a perfectly good answer and it costs you nothing.

    The repair is carried out

Done at our Drumcondra bench by the technicians who do this every day.

    Bench testing

We test what we replaced and everything that sits beside it, because that is where a rushed repair shows up.

    Back in your hands

Collected from Drumcondra, or returned to your door if we picked it up. Covered for 360 days.

Is anything on the device at risk?

We are replacing a part, not reading a phone. Your photos, messages and accounts are not something this job touches.

The one place it comes up is testing. A repair is not finished until it has been used, and using a locked device means a passcode. You are welcome to withhold it, and we will tell you which checks that leaves undone rather than quietly skipping them. A passcode you do give us lives on a paper docket that gets shredded, never in a database.

Back it up first if you can. A device that has taken a knock has had its storage shaken whether or not anything looks wrong, and a backup is free insurance against the day that matters.

    What about the water resistance?

Treat the device as no longer water resistant after any repair, including this one.

An IP rating is measured on a brand new, factory sealed device in a laboratory. It is a description of how that device left the factory, not a property it keeps. Heat, age and everyday knocks degrade the seal long before anybody opens it, which is why phones that have never been repaired still let water in.

Opening a device means cutting through adhesive. We refit with fresh adhesive, which gives you back a physical seal that keeps rain and splashes out. What we will not do is claim the original rating is restored, because there is no way for us or for any independent shop in Ireland to test that.

If the device lives near water, tell us when you book. It changes what we recommend and it is a two minute conversation rather than a surprise afterwards.

    The 360-day warranty

Every completed repair is covered for 360 days on the part and the workmanship. If the display we fitted fails, or the fitting was at fault, we put it right at no charge.

What it does not cover is a new accident. A phone dropped again after the repair, fresh physical damage, liquid damage, or a fault in a part we did not touch, all sit outside it. That is the same limit any honest repair warranty has.

No fix, no fee. The diagnostic is from €25, and if the repair does not happen you pay nothing.

Three ways to get it to us

    • Walk in to Drumcondra4 Richmond Road, Dublin 3. No appointment. Mon to Sat 10:00 to 18:00, closed Sunday. Most phone screens and batteries done in 15 to 45 minutes while you wait.
    • We collect and returnDoor to door across Dublin, Monday to Friday, usually 2 to 4 working days. The repair takes the same time; the courier is the difference.
    • Send it in yourselfPost it to the shop with a tracked, insured service and a note with your number. We cannot cover a parcel in transit, and that is the honest trade-off for the route existing.

Same repair price and the same 360-day warranty on all three. The only thing that changes is how the device travels.

    Asked all the time

    MacBook Pro 16-inch (M2 Pro/Max) screen questions.

€90, including the part, the fitting, the testing and the 360-day warranty. VAT is included. You get that figure confirmed before anything is opened, and if we cannot repair the phone you pay nothing.

Assessed first, then quoted. If the diagnostic turns up something else, or a part has to be ordered, we tell you before you commit rather than after.

A clean-up check is free. Any other diagnostic on the MacBook Pro 16-inch (M2 Pro/Max) is from €25, and you are told the cost before it starts. No additional paid work happens without your approval.

No, and anybody who says otherwise is guessing. If the storage itself is damaged the answer can be no. We assess first, tell you honestly what the odds are, and you decide before spending anything.

Not for the data. If we cannot get it back you do not pay for the recovery.

No further than proving the recovery worked. Your data is copied, checked that it opens, and handed over. We do not browse it and we do not keep a copy.

Usually, yes, and where the phone is repairable that is what we recommend. A working phone hands over its data easily. Recovery from a dead one is specialist work and it costs more.

No, and nobody honest will. What we can do is tell you the realistic odds before you commit, and stop rather than make things worse.

Nothing. No fix, no fee applies here as it does everywhere else in the shop.

Yes. We look at what we need to confirm the recovery worked and nothing else, and the device and its copy go back to you.

Turn on the automatic backup your device already has and check once that it is actually running. That is the whole task and it takes two minutes.

Usually yes. Recovery is a separate job from repairing the device, and we can often read the storage even when the device itself is beyond economic repair. Bring it in as it is and do not try to power it on repeatedly, because each attempt on a damaged board can make things worse.

It depends entirely on what happened to it. Failed screens, dead batteries and broken ports do not touch your data at all. Liquid damage and board faults are case by case, and we tell you what we think after looking rather than before.

Yes. It makes no difference where a device came from, whether it was bought here, abroad or second hand. Bring it in.

No. These are hardware repairs and we do not open, copy or erase anything on the device. Back it up first anyway, because any device that already has a fault can fail further while it is being worked on.

iMEND is an independent repair service. Brand and model names are used only to describe the devices we repair. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or an authorised service provider for any manufacturer.

    Why bring it here

An independent workshop, not a kiosk.

We are a dedicated repair bench in Dublin 3. That means we take on work authorised channels turn away, and we tell you honestly when something is not worth fixing.

    Diagnosed, not guessed

Every device is tested before we quote, so you are not paying for a part that was never the problem.

    Parts that last

Genuine or OEM-grade components chosen for your model. We tell you which is going in before we start.

    Your data stays yours

Hardware-only repairs. We never read, copy or move anything on your device.

    No fix, no fee

If we cannot repair it, there is nothing to pay. Diagnostics from €25, no handling charge.

The guys in imend put two devices together to get it working. Very happy Hubbie and wife- lovely guys to work with and they even threw in a birthday charging gift.
