The Pixel 8a came out in 2024, with a 6.1 inch Actua OLED display and the Google Tensor G3 chip. Charging is over USB-C and it unlocks with a fingerprint reader under the display. There is 64MP main and 13MP ultra wide on the back and an aluminium frame, and it is rated IP67. The value Pixel: a composite back rather than glass, and IP67 rather than IP68. It shares no screen with the Pixel 8.

What this fixes

The faults a back glass replacement puts right.

  • Cracked or shattered rear panelThe phone works, the back is broken. Mostly cosmetic at first, and it does not stay that way.
  • Glass lifting or pieces coming awayOnce the panel is loose it stops sealing, and it starts cutting fingers. Worth doing before it spreads.
  • Wireless charging gone since the breakSometimes the coil underneath is disturbed. Worth mentioning when you book, because it changes what we check.
  • Wireless charging has stopped workingThe coil sits under the back glass and can take damage in the same impact that broke it.
  • The back is cracked and the phone will not sit flatCheck the battery. A swelling cell pushes from inside and it is a different and more urgent job.
  • A cracked camera lens as well as the backTwo separate parts. The lens usually matters more, because it shows up in every photograph.
Before you spend anything

Is it definitely just the back glass?

The back is the one repair where doing nothing is a reasonable choice for a while, so it is worth being straight about when it is not.

IfThe camera glass is broken rather than the panel
That is usually a separate and cheaper part, so ask us before booking a full rear glass replacement.
IfYou are selling or trading the phone soon
Worth doing. A cracked back takes more off a trade-in valuation than the repair costs on most models.
IfThe glass is cracked and flat and nothing else has changed
No urgency. It does not spread the way a front screen does, and it can wait until it suits you.
IfGlass is lifting or coming away in pieces
Do it now. Loose glass cuts, and a back that has started shedding is a longer job than one that has not.
IfWireless charging stopped at the same time
Say so when you book, because the coil may need replacing along with the glass and that changes the price.

If you are not sure which of these you have, that is what the free diagnostic is for. It costs nothing and it is the step that stops people paying for the wrong repair.

What parts do we fit?

Two tiers, and you choose knowing which is which: a genuine Google service part where one is made for this component, or premium aftermarket where none is. The warranty is 360 days on either.

We will not describe a part as genuine, original or Google certified unless that is what is going into your phone. If the honest answer is premium aftermarket, that is what we say at the counter.

Genuine, OEM and aftermarket: what the words actually mean

    What the €105 includes

    • A replacement rear panel fitted and sealed
    • The camera surround checked and replaced where it is part of the panel
    • Wireless charging tested after fitting
    • 360-day warranty on the part and the workmanship

No additional paid work happens without your approval. If the diagnostic finds something behind the part we are replacing, we stop, explain it and confirm the cost first.

A collection and return across Dublin can be added when you book. The repair price and the warranty are the same either way.

    Choose the part

Two tiers, named before you agree.

Back glass is cosmetic and structural at once, so the tier question is really about colour match and how the adhesive behaves.

    iMEND Premium

    Original or manufacturer-grade part

The manufacturer's own panel, in the manufacturer's colour. The only tier that guarantees an exact match on the finishes nobody outside the factory reproduces.

    €120

    Value Edition

Premium aftermarket, tested to the same standard

Made to the original specification. On most colours it is indistinguishable; on a handful of finishes it is very slightly off and we will tell you which yours is before you decide.

    €105

The €105 on this page is our standard quote for this repair. Which tier suits your device is a conversation at the counter, and the price for each is on the table before you decide. The 360-day warranty is the same on both, because we would not offer a tier we did not think would last.

Ask about the wireless charging coil at the same time. It sits under this glass, it can be damaged in the same impact, and it is cheaper to sort while the phone is already open.

The parts we use, in full

    How we do it

From the counter to back in your hand.

Tell us what it is doing

Two minutes online, or straight in the door at 4 Richmond Road. The more you can say about when it started, the faster we get to the cause.

    Free diagnostic

Nothing is opened or ordered until we know what failed. There is no charge for this and no obligation to go ahead afterwards.

    You approve the price

You get the exact figure before any work starts. Nothing else happens without asking you first.

    The repair is carried out

Done at our Drumcondra bench by the technicians who do this every day.

    Bench testing

The repaired function and the things around it are checked before we call you.

    Back in your hands

Pick it up from Richmond Road or have it couriered back across Dublin. Either way it carries the 360-day warranty.

    Before it goes back

    What we test every time.

A repair is not finished when the part is fitted. It is finished when the things around it have been checked.

    Seal and fit

Edges checked all the way round. A back that is proud at one corner will lift again.

    Wireless charging

Confirmed with a pad after the repair, because the coil sits directly under the part we replaced.

Camera and flash through the new glass

Photographed against a plain surface to check for haze, which is how a badly seated lens shows up.

    Seal around the edge

Refitted with fresh adhesive so rain and splashes stay out, which is the honest limit of what a resealed phone can promise.

Is anything on the device at risk?

We are replacing a part, not reading a phone. Your photos, messages and accounts are not something this job touches.

The one place it comes up is testing. A repair is not finished until it has been used, and using a locked device means a passcode. You are welcome to withhold it, and we will tell you which checks that leaves undone rather than quietly skipping them. A passcode you do give us lives on a paper docket that gets shredded, never in a database.

Back it up first if you can. A device that has taken a knock has had its storage shaken whether or not anything looks wrong, and a backup is free insurance against the day that matters.

Will it still survive a splash?

After any repair, ours included, work on the assumption that the device is no longer water resistant.

The rating on the box was measured once, on a sealed unit, in controlled conditions. It was never a promise about the device three years later. Adhesive hardens, seals compress and a single drop can break the seal without leaving a mark you would notice.

We reseal with fresh adhesive and it does a real job: rain, splashes and a wet counter are all fine. A submerged phone is not, and we would rather say that plainly than let you find out.

If yours goes near water regularly, say so at the counter and we will tell you what the adhesive covers and what it does not.

    The 360-day warranty

Every completed repair is covered for 360 days on the part and the workmanship. If the display we fitted fails, or the fitting was at fault, we put it right at no charge.

What it does not cover is a new accident. A phone dropped again after the repair, fresh physical damage, liquid damage, or a fault in a part we did not touch, all sit outside it. That is the same limit any honest repair warranty has.

No fix, no fee. The diagnostic is free, and if the repair does not happen you pay nothing.

Three ways to get it to us

    • Walk in to Drumcondra4 Richmond Road, Dublin 3. No appointment. Mon to Sat 10:00 to 18:00, closed Sunday. Most phone screens and batteries done in 15 to 45 minutes while you wait.
    • We collect and returnDoor to door across Dublin, Monday to Friday, usually 2 to 4 working days. The repair takes the same time; the courier is the difference.
    • Send it in yourselfPost it to the shop with a tracked, insured service and a note with your number. We cannot cover a parcel in transit, and that is the honest trade-off for the route existing.

Same repair price and the same 360-day warranty on all three. The only thing that changes is how the device travels.

    Asked all the time

    Pixel 8a screen questions.

€105, including the part, the fitting, the testing and the 360-day warranty. VAT is included. You get that figure confirmed before anything is opened, and if we cannot repair the phone you pay nothing.

Usually same day. If the diagnostic turns up something else, or a part has to be ordered, we tell you before you commit rather than after.

No, and treat it as no longer water resistant from the moment the glass broke, not from the moment we open it. We refit with fresh adhesive, which restores a physical seal, but nobody outside a laboratory can restore an IP68 rating and we will not claim to.

Not while it is flat and holding together. It becomes urgent when the glass starts lifting, because loose glass cuts fingers and lets dust and moisture inside.

On several phones the back glass is bonded to the frame and has to be taken out in pieces with heat, and on some it is separated with a laser. The part is cheap; the removal is the job.

You can, and it hides the cracks rather than fixing anything. Glass that is already lifting will keep lifting under a skin.

Treat it as no longer water resistant from the moment it broke rather than from the moment we open it. Fresh adhesive keeps rain and splashes out; nobody outside a laboratory restores an IP rating.

iMEND is an independent repair service. Brand and model names are used only to describe the devices we repair. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or an authorised service provider for any manufacturer.

    Why bring it here

We are a dedicated repair bench in Dublin 3. That means we take on work authorised channels turn away, and we tell you honestly when something is not worth fixing.

    Diagnosed, not guessed

Every device is tested before we quote, so you are not paying for a part that was never the problem.

    Parts that last

Genuine or OEM-grade components chosen for your model. We tell you which is going in before we start.

    Your data stays yours

Hardware-only repairs. We never read, copy or move anything on your device.

    No fix, no fee

If we cannot repair it, there is nothing to pay. No diagnostic fee, no handling charge.
