Phone will not charge
Three different faults produce this, and two of them are cheap. Here is how to tell which one you have before you pay anybody.

What causes it
- Compacted lint in the port, which is the single most common cause and the cheapest to fix
- A failed cable or charger, which fails invisibly at the strain point
- A worn or bent port that no longer holds the connector
- A battery at the end of its life, which can present as a charging fault
What to do right now
- Try a different cable and a different plug that you know work
- Shine a light into the port and compare it with the speaker grille beside it
- Note whether it charges at an angle, intermittently, or not at all
- Stop forcing the cable if it feels tight, because that bends contacts

- Nothing at all when you plug inNo light, no vibration, no charging symbol. That can be the cable, the port, the battery or the board, and they are four different prices.
- It charges only if you hold the plug at an angleThe contacts are not meeting. Almost always lint packed at the bottom of the port, occasionally a worn connector.
- It starts and stops while plugged inAn intermittent connection. Same causes as above, and it tends to get worse rather than settle.
- It charges from the wall but not from a computerPower and data run on different pins, so a port can pass one and fail the other. That narrows it usefully.
- It charges very slowlyOften the plug rather than the phone. A 5W charger on a modern phone looks like a fault and is not one.
- It gets hot while chargingWorth looking at rather than living with. Heat is what ages a battery fastest, so a hot charge makes the next problem arrive sooner.

It varies by model more than any other repair. On some the port is on its own flex and lifts out; on others it is soldered to the board and needs heat and a microscope. The page price reflects which yours is.
Yes. Wireless charging uses a separate coil, so it is unaffected by port work, and a phone with a dead port that still charges wirelessly is a phone that is not urgent.
