A phone that has been in water, cleaned and assessed before anything is replaced, because corrosion carries on long after the phone has dried.

The MacBook Pro 15-inch (Intel) came out in 2019, with a 15.4 inch Retina LCD display and the Intel Core i7 or i9 chip. The ports are Four Thunderbolt 3 and headphone and it unlocks with Touch ID at the end of the Touch Bar. There is an aluminium frame. The last 15-inch MacBook Pro, with the Touch Bar and four USB-C ports and nothing else. It was replaced by the 16-inch in late 2019. Ireland gets the A1990.
Liquid damage is the one repair where what you do in the first hour matters more than what we do afterwards.
If you are not sure which of these you have, that is what the free diagnostic is for. It costs nothing and it is the step that stops people paying for the wrong repair.
Where Apple supplies a service part for this component, that is what goes in. Where it does not, we fit premium aftermarket and say so. Which of the two you are getting is settled before you agree to anything, and the 360-day warranty does not change between them.
We will not describe a part as genuine, original or Apple certified unless that is what is going into your laptop. If the honest answer is premium aftermarket, that is what we say at the counter.
No additional paid work happens without your approval. If the diagnostic finds something behind the part we are replacing, we stop, explain it and confirm the cost first.
Diagnostics from €25. A clean-up check is free.
A collection and return across Dublin can be added when you book. The repair price and the warranty are the same either way.

Before a part is ordered we establish what has really gone wrong. It is free, and it is the reason people do not leave here having paid for the wrong thing.
The price is confirmed to you before anything begins, and it does not move afterwards unless you agree to something else.
Done at our Drumcondra bench by the technicians who do this every day.
Nothing is handed back untested. The repaired part and its neighbours are all checked first.
Yours again, from the counter or by courier, with 360 days of cover on the part and the work.
A repair is not finished when the part is fitted. It is finished when the things around it have been checked.
Corrosion is visible long before it is fatal, and that is what decides whether the phone is worth repairing.
Cameras, speakers, microphones, charging and sensors, since liquid does not respect one component.
Because corrosion spreads to whatever it can reach, not only to the part you noticed.
All of them are moisture-sensitive and all of them are checked before it goes back.
Nothing about this repair requires reading what is on the device, and nobody here does.
Testing is a different matter. To prove a repair works we have to turn the device on and use it, which sometimes means asking for your passcode. Say no if you prefer and we will show you exactly which checks we cannot complete without it. Where you do give it, it is written on the paper docket and the docket is shredded. There is deliberately no field for a passcode in our system.
Take a backup before you come in. It is free, it takes two minutes on a device that still works, and it is the one thing nobody regrets having done.
Treat the device as no longer water resistant after any repair, including this one.
An IP rating is measured on a brand new, factory sealed device in a laboratory. It is a description of how that device left the factory, not a property it keeps. Heat, age and everyday knocks degrade the seal long before anybody opens it, which is why phones that have never been repaired still let water in.
Opening a device means cutting through adhesive. We refit with fresh adhesive, which gives you back a physical seal that keeps rain and splashes out. What we will not do is claim the original rating is restored, because there is no way for us or for any independent shop in Ireland to test that.
If the device lives near water, tell us when you book. It changes what we recommend and it is a two minute conversation rather than a surprise afterwards.
Every completed repair is covered for 360 days on the part and the workmanship. If the display we fitted fails, or the fitting was at fault, we put it right at no charge.
What it does not cover is a new accident. A phone dropped again after the repair, fresh physical damage, liquid damage, or a fault in a part we did not touch, all sit outside it. That is the same limit any honest repair warranty has.
No fix, no fee. The diagnostic is from €25, and if the repair does not happen you pay nothing.
Same repair price and the same 360-day warranty on all three. The only thing that changes is how the device travels.
We quote it after a diagnostic, from €25, because the price depends on what we find. No fix, no fee, so if we cannot repair it you pay nothing.
Assessed first, then quoted. If the diagnostic turns up something else, or a part has to be ordered, we tell you before you commit rather than after.
A clean-up check is free. Any other diagnostic on the MacBook Pro 15-inch (Intel) is from €25, and you are told the cost before it starts. No additional paid work happens without your approval.
Often yes. Corrosion is progressive rather than instant, and phones arrive here working weeks after a soaking and are still recoverable. The assessment tells you where it actually stands.
Because nobody can see inside a wet phone from the counter. Two phones from the same sink can need a clean and a new board. We charge for the assessment, tell you what we found, and take that cost off the repair if you go ahead.
No, and no honest shop covers it. Corrosion carries on after the repair in ways nobody can predict or control, so a warranty on it would be a promise we could not keep.
Often, yes, and it is worth saying that is the priority before we start rather than after.
No. It is the most persistent myth in phone repair. Rice does not pull moisture out of a sealed device; it holds the phone somewhere humid and gives corrosion more time. Turn it off and bring it in.
Often yes. Devices arrive here working weeks after a soaking and are still recoverable. The assessment tells you where it stands and it costs nothing to find out.
Because corrosion carries on afterwards in ways nobody can predict. A warranty on it would be a promise we could not keep, and no honest shop offers one.
Turn it off, leave it off, and bring it in. Hair dryers push moisture further in and heat is hard on a board that is already compromised.
Shut it down, unplug it, do not open the lid to check and do not turn it back on. If you are comfortable doing it, leave it closed and upside down so the liquid drains away from the board rather than into it. Then bring it in the same day. On a MacBook the battery stays connected even when the machine is off, so current keeps flowing through a wet board until we disconnect it.
Yes. Liquid on a MacBook board rarely kills it that day. It corrodes tracks over the following weeks and the machine dies later, usually when the residue reaches something that matters. Cleaning it now is a fraction of the cost of a board repair afterwards.
No. Rice pulls a little moisture from the air around the device and none from inside it, and it leaves starch dust in the ports. Meanwhile the liquid is still on the board corroding it. Rice is the reason a lot of devices that could have been saved arrive here too late.
Often, and it depends far more on what the liquid was and how long it sat than on how wet it got. We open the device, remove the board and clean it properly, then work through what is still faulty. Clean water caught early is usually recoverable. Salt water, coffee and anything sugary are much harder because they keep eating the board after they dry.
