Back glass smashed
Not just cosmetic. Two things stop working, and the price depends heavily on which model you have.
Mon to Sat 10 to 6
What causes it
- A drop onto a hard edge, which concentrates the impact
- Pressure in a pocket or bag against an existing hairline crack
- A swollen battery pushing the panel out from inside
- Thermal stress on an already weakened panel
What to do right now
- Tape over it to stop the glass shedding
- Check whether wireless charging still works
- Look at whether the panel is sitting flat or bulging, because a bulge is the battery
- Treat the phone as having no water resistance from now on
What you are seeing.
The same complaint covers several different faults. Find the line that matches and you have already narrowed it down.
- Cracked but flat and intactCosmetic for now. It is worth doing but it is not urgent this week.
- Glass lifting or shedding piecesGet it done. Loose glass cuts fingers and lets dust and moisture in.
- The camera lens glass is cracked tooDifferent part and often the more important one. Cracked lens glass shows up as haze or flare in every photo.
- Wireless charging has stopped workingThe coil sits under the back glass and can be damaged in the same impact.
- The back is cracked and the phone is bentThat is a bigger conversation. A bent frame changes what is possible and what it costs.
- Only the frame is scuffedNot a back glass job. Say so when you book and we will tell you honestly.
Work out which one it is.
Back glass is the repair people most often put off, so here is the honest version of when that is fine and when it is not.
If none of these is clearly yours, that is what the free diagnostic is for. It costs nothing and it is the step that stops people paying for the wrong repair.
What we check at the bench.
- Whether the frame is bent, which affects how the new panel seats
- The wireless charging coil, which sits directly under the glass
- The battery, in case it caused the break rather than the drop
- Camera lenses, which usually take the same impact
What it costs.
Priced per model on that model's repair page. On phones where the back is laser-separated from the frame it takes longer than a screen, which is why it is not always the cheaper of the two.
Whatever it turns out to be, you get the price before anything is opened, and there is no fee if we cannot fix it. Every completed repair carries a 360-day warranty on the part we fitted and the work we did.

What is different about this fault on each one.
Common questions.
Not while it is flat and holding together. It becomes urgent when the glass starts lifting, because loose glass cuts and lets moisture in.
Treat it as no longer water resistant from the moment it broke. We refit with fresh adhesive, which keeps rain and splashes out, but no shop can restore an IP rating.
On several phones the back glass is bonded to the frame and has to be removed in pieces with heat and, on some, a laser. The part is cheap; the removal is the job.
Yes, unless the coil itself was damaged in the impact. Tell us if wireless charging stopped at the same time so we check it.

Back Glass Replacement starts from €35 depending on the model. No fix, no fee, so if we cannot repair it you pay nothing.
On most recent phones the back panel is bonded to the frame with adhesive that only releases under heat, and on some models the glass has to be removed in pieces with a laser and the residue cleared before the new panel goes on. It is slow work, and the price is mostly labour.
You can, but two things follow. Loose glass keeps shedding splinters, and a broken back stops wireless charging working properly on many models. Water resistance is gone either way until it is sealed again.
Card or cash at the counter when you collect. You get a firm price before any work starts, and it does not change unless we find something else and you agree to it first.
Most of the time, yes, if we have the part on the shelf. That covers common iPhone and Galaxy screens and batteries. Ring ahead on 085 200 1155 with your model if you are coming across the city and want to be sure.

Bring it in and we do it again at no cost, for 360 days from the repair, on the part and the workmanship both. That does not cover new accidental damage, which we will always be straight with you about.
