Phone will not turn on
A phone that shows nothing is usually not dead. Four things produce a black screen and only one of them is expensive.
Also searched as my phone is dead, phone died and wont turn on.
Mon to Sat 10 to 6
What causes it
- A battery so flat it cannot show a charging symbol, which needs twenty minutes on a known good charger before anything happens
- A failed charging port, so the phone has been running down for days without taking any charge
- A broken display on a phone that is otherwise running, which is why it vibrates and rings but shows nothing
- A software hang, which a forced restart clears without opening anything
- A power fault on the board, which is the one case that needs the microscope
What to do right now
- Leave it on a charger you know works for a full twenty minutes before deciding anything
- Try a different cable and a different plug, because both fail invisibly
- Force a restart: on an iPhone, volume up, volume down, then hold the side button until the logo appears
- Ring it from another phone and feel for vibration, which tells you the phone is alive and the screen is not
- If it got wet, stop charging it and bring it in, because power through a wet board is what turns a repair into a write-off
What you are seeing.
The same complaint covers several different faults. Find the line that matches and you have already narrowed it down.
- Nothing at all, no matter what you pressMost often a completely flat battery or a port that has stopped charging. It is also what a board fault looks like, which is why the first test is whether it draws current.
- It vibrates or rings but the screen stays blackThe phone is running. That is a display fault, and it is a screen replacement rather than anything deeper.
- The logo appears and then it goes off againA boot loop rather than a dead phone. Software most of the time, a failing battery some of the time.
- It gets warm on the charger but never wakesSomething is drawing power without booting. Worth stopping and bringing it in rather than leaving it plugged in overnight.
- It only works while the cable is held at an angleThe port, not the phone. That is the cheapest repair on this list.
Work out which one it is.
Before you pay anyone, these five tell you roughly what you are dealing with.
If none of these is clearly yours, that is what the free diagnostic is for. It costs nothing and it is the step that stops people paying for the wrong repair.
What we check at the bench.
- Whether the board draws current at all, on a bench supply, which separates dead from dark in about a minute
- The charging port and its flex before anything is replaced
- The battery under load rather than at rest, because a failed cell reads fine sitting still
- The display and its connectors, since a phone that rings but shows nothing is a screen job
- The board for liquid damage, which changes the order everything else is done in
What it costs.
The diagnostic is free and there is no obligation attached. A port or a battery is a fixed price per model, listed on that model's page. Board-level work is quoted after it has been looked at, because nobody can price it from across a counter.
Whatever it turns out to be, you get the price before anything is opened, and there is no fee if we cannot fix it. Every completed repair carries a 360-day warranty on the part we fitted and the work we did.
On your device.
What is different about this fault on each one.
Common questions.
Almost always, yes. Storage is a separate chip from everything that usually fails here, so a dead port, a dead battery or a broken screen leaves your data untouched.
Usually the same visit. Putting the board on a bench supply says whether it draws current, and that separates most of these cases in about a minute.
No. The diagnostic is free and no fix means no fee.
Usually not. An update that fails mid-write leaves a phone looping on the logo, and that is recoverable without replacing any parts.

Dead Device Diagnostic starts from €26 depending on the model. No fix, no fee, so if we cannot repair it you pay nothing.
Yes, because dead rarely means dead. The usual causes are a failed battery, a charging port that stopped delivering power, or a board fault after a drop or a spill, and the first two are routine repairs. The diagnostic is free, so finding out costs you nothing.
Whether it draws any current at all, which tells us straight away if this is a battery and port problem or a board problem. From there we work through power rails on the bench. You get a plain answer and a price before anything is replaced.
Usually yes, and that is a separate job to reviving the device. Even where a board is beyond economic repair we can often recover what is on the storage.
Yes. It makes no difference where a device came from, whether it was bought here, abroad or second hand. Bring it in.
That depends on what the device is worth and what the repair costs, and we will tell you honestly when the sums do not work. Turning away a job we could have charged for is the reason people come back.
Yes, including VAT, the part, the fitting and the testing. If we find something else once we are inside, we ring you before doing anything, and you can say no and pay nothing.
