The MacBook Air 13-inch (M4) arrived in 2025, with a 13.6 inch Liquid Retina LCD display and the M4 chip. It carries MagSafe 3, two Thunderbolt 4 and headphone and it unlocks with Touch ID in the power button. There is an aluminium frame. Sky Blue is only sold on the M4 Air. The camera in the notch is the 12MP Center Stage camera rather than the 1080p one on earlier Airs. The one sold in Ireland is A3240.

What this fixes

Why people book a charging port repair.

  • Will not charge at allNothing when you plug in. Sometimes the port, sometimes the cable, occasionally the battery or the board, which is why we look first.
  • Stops and starts while plugged inThe connection is intermittent. Often lint compacted at the bottom of the port holding the plug a millimetre short.
  • Charges but will not connect to a computer or CarPlayPower and data run on different pins, so a port can pass one and fail the other.
  • It charges only when you hold the cable at an angleWorn contacts or a port that has been pulled sideways. Holding it is the last stage before it stops entirely.
  • The cable falls out on its ownLint packed behind the contacts, or a port whose retention clips have worn. The first is a clean and the second is a replacement.
  • It charges wirelessly but not with a cableConfirms the port rather than the battery, which narrows the job considerably.
Before you spend anything

Is it definitely the charging port?

This is the repair most often quoted when it is not needed, so it is worth going through properly.

IfIt charges from the wall but not from a computer
Power and data are different pins. That narrows it to the port rather than the battery or the board, which is useful to know before we open anything.
IfThe phone is dead and does not respond to any charger
Start with a diagnostic. A dead phone is not the same problem as a bad port, and we would rather find out which before you pay.
IfYou can see grey fluff when you shine a light in
That is the fault. A careful clean is often the whole repair and it costs a fraction of a port replacement.
IfIt charges fine but slowly
Try another plug first. Slow charging is very often the charger rather than the phone.
IfIt has never charged properly since a repair elsewhere
The port sits close to a lot of other flexes. Worth having it opened and checked rather than replaced blind.

If you are not sure which of these you have, that is what the free diagnostic is for. It costs nothing and it is the step that stops people paying for the wrong repair.

What parts do we fit?

Where Apple supplies a service part for this component, that is what goes in. Where it does not, we fit premium aftermarket and say so. Which of the two you are getting is settled before you agree to anything, and the 360-day warranty does not change between them.

Nobody here will call a part original when it is not. If what fits your laptop is premium aftermarket, you hear that word at the counter rather than reading it on a docket afterwards.

Genuine, OEM and aftermarket: what the words actually mean

    What the €199 includes

    • The port inspected and cleaned before anything is replaced
    • A replacement charging assembly where cleaning is not enough
    • Charging and data transfer both tested
    • 360-day warranty on the part and the workmanship

Nothing extra gets done and charged for without you saying yes to it. Where the diagnostic turns up a second fault, the work stops there and you hear the price before it goes any further.

Diagnostics from €25. A clean-up check is free.

A collection and return across Dublin can be added when you book. The repair price and the warranty are the same either way.

    Choose the part

Two tiers, named before you agree.

A charging port is a flex assembly rather than a tuned component, so the tier matters less here than almost anywhere else.

    iMEND Premium

    Original or manufacturer-grade part

The manufacturer's own flex. Worth it on a phone still under its own warranty or one you intend to keep for years.

    Priced at the counter

    Value Edition

Premium aftermarket, tested to the same standard

Made to the original specification and, on a port, genuinely hard to fault. Fast charging negotiates the same, data works the same, and it costs less.

    Priced at the counter

The €199 on this page is our standard quote for this repair. Which tier suits your device is a conversation at the counter, and the price for each is on the table before you decide. The 360-day warranty is the same on both, because we would not offer a tier we did not think would last.

This is one of the repairs where we will tell you to take the cheaper tier and put the difference towards a case. The part is not where a port repair goes wrong; the fitting is.

The parts we use, in full

    How we do it

From the counter to back in your hand.

Tell us what it is doing

Book online in about two minutes, or walk in without an appointment. Describe the symptom rather than the repair, it is more useful to us.

    Diagnostic

Nothing is opened or ordered until we know what failed. There is no charge for this and no obligation to go ahead afterwards.

    You approve the price

You get the exact figure before any work starts. Nothing else happens without asking you first.

    The repair is carried out

It stays in the shop. The work is done on our own bench by the technicians who do it every day of the week.

    Bench testing

The repaired function and the things around it are checked before we call you.

    Back in your hands

Yours again, from the counter or by courier, with 360 days of cover on the part and the work.

    Before it goes back

    What we test every time.

A repair is not finished when the part is fitted. It is finished when the things around it have been checked.

    Charging from the wall

With the phone drawing real current, not just showing the lightning bolt.

Charge and data on the same port

Both, because a port can carry power and have lost its data pins.

    Cable retention

A cable that will not stay in is not a repair we call finished.

    Accessories through the port

Headphones or a dongle where your device uses them, since they run through the same connector.

Is anything on the device at risk?

We are replacing a part, not reading a phone. Your photos, messages and accounts are not something this job touches.

The one place it comes up is testing. A repair is not finished until it has been used, and using a locked device means a passcode. You are welcome to withhold it, and we will tell you which checks that leaves undone rather than quietly skipping them. A passcode you do give us lives on a paper docket that gets shredded, never in a database.

Back it up first if you can. A device that has taken a knock has had its storage shaken whether or not anything looks wrong, and a backup is free insurance against the day that matters.

Is it still water resistant afterwards?

Treat the device as no longer water resistant after any repair, including this one.

An IP rating is measured on a brand new, factory sealed device in a laboratory. It is a description of how that device left the factory, not a property it keeps. Heat, age and everyday knocks degrade the seal long before anybody opens it, which is why phones that have never been repaired still let water in.

Opening a device means cutting through adhesive. We refit with fresh adhesive, which gives you back a physical seal that keeps rain and splashes out. What we will not do is claim the original rating is restored, because there is no way for us or for any independent shop in Ireland to test that.

If the device lives near water, tell us when you book. It changes what we recommend and it is a two minute conversation rather than a surprise afterwards.

    The 360-day warranty

Every completed repair is covered for 360 days on the part and the workmanship. If the display we fitted fails, or the fitting was at fault, we put it right at no charge.

What it does not cover is a new accident. A phone dropped again after the repair, fresh physical damage, liquid damage, or a fault in a part we did not touch, all sit outside it. That is the same limit any honest repair warranty has.

No fix, no fee. The diagnostic is from €25, and if the repair does not happen you pay nothing.

Three ways to get it to us

    • Walk in to Drumcondra4 Richmond Road, Dublin 3. No appointment. Mon to Sat 10:00 to 18:00, closed Sunday. Most phone screens and batteries done in 15 to 45 minutes while you wait.
    • We collect and returnDoor to door across Dublin, Monday to Friday, usually 2 to 4 working days. The repair takes the same time; the courier is the difference.
    • Send it in yourselfPost it to the shop with a tracked, insured service and a note with your number. We cannot cover a parcel in transit, and that is the honest trade-off for the route existing.

Same repair price and the same 360-day warranty on all three. The only thing that changes is how the device travels.

    Asked all the time

MacBook Air 13-inch (M4) screen questions.

€199, including the part, the fitting, the testing and the 360-day warranty. VAT is included. You get that figure confirmed before anything is opened, and if we cannot repair the phone you pay nothing.

Usually same day. If the diagnostic turns up something else, or a part has to be ordered, we tell you before you commit rather than after.

A clean-up check is free. Any other diagnostic on the MacBook Air 13-inch (M4) is from €25, and you are told the cost before it starts. No additional paid work happens without your approval.

Carefully, with the phone off and something non-metallic like a wooden toothpick. Do not use a pin, a paperclip or compressed air. The pins bend and once they are bent the clean becomes a replacement.

Most of it is pocket lint. Emptying the port every few months with a toothpick keeps it from packing down, and a case with a covered port helps if you carry the phone loose.

Yes. Wireless charging does not use the port at all, which is also a useful way to keep a phone going until you can get the port sorted.

Very often, and it is the first thing we check. Pocket lint compacts at the bottom of the port a little further with every cable insertion until the plug can no longer reach the pins. Where a clean fixes it, that is what you pay for.

It is a workaround, not a fix. It is slower, it makes more heat, and you still cannot move files or use wired accessories.

Usually same day. On many devices the port is a plug-in flex and it is quick; on others it is soldered to the board and that is bench work rather than counter work.

Almost always lint and sideways force. Charging with the phone in a pocket, or lying on a bed with the cable under tension, pushes against a connector that was designed to take the plug straight in and nothing else.

It will charge at the speed the phone was designed for, which is faster than a worn port manages. It will not make the phone charge faster than it did when it was new.

Often neither. The most common cause is packed lint in the port, which we clean out in a few minutes. Try a different cable and charger first. If it only charges when the cable is held at an angle, or not at all, the port itself is worn and needs replacing.

Whichever the device needs, and we tell you which after the diagnostic. A clean is quick and cheap. A worn or bent port is a soldered component on most models, so it is a bench job with heat and microscope work.

That is the classic symptom, yes, but check the cable first because a cable that has failed at the strain point does exactly the same thing. We test with both before quoting, and we will not sell you a port you do not need.

It varies by model more than any other repair. On some the port is on its own flex and lifts out; on others it is soldered to the board and needs heat and a microscope. The page price reflects which yours is.

iMEND is an independent repair service. Brand and model names are used only to describe the devices we repair. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or an authorised service provider for any manufacturer.

    Why bring it here

An independent workshop, not a kiosk.

We are a dedicated repair bench in Dublin 3. That means we take on work authorised channels turn away, and we tell you honestly when something is not worth fixing.

    Diagnosed, not guessed

Every device is tested before we quote, so you are not paying for a part that was never the problem.

    Parts that last

Genuine or OEM-grade components chosen for your model. We tell you which is going in before we start.

    Your data stays yours

Hardware-only repairs. We never read, copy or move anything on your device.

    No fix, no fee

If we cannot repair it, there is nothing to pay. Diagnostics from €25, no handling charge.
