MacBook Pro 14-inch (M2 Pro/Max), from 2023, with a 14.2 inch Liquid Retina XDR, mini-LED display and the M2 Pro or M2 Max chip. It carries MagSafe 3, three Thunderbolt 4, HDMI, SD card and headphone and it unlocks with Touch ID in the power button. There is an aluminium frame. Nothing on the outside tells it from the M1 Pro 14-inch. About This Mac, or the number under the case, is the only way. Ireland gets the A2779.

What this fixes

What a battery replacement actually fixes.

  • Flat by the afternoonThe clearest sign. A battery is a consumable: it is rated for a few hundred full cycles and then it stops holding what it used to.
  • Dies in the coldChemistry, not a fault in itself. A healthy battery slows in the cold and recovers; a worn one drops off a cliff and does not come back until it is charged.
  • Hot while charging, or hot doing nothingWorth looking at rather than living with. Heat is what ages a battery fastest, so a hot battery gets worse quicker.
  • Battery health well down, or a service messageMost phones report capacity against new. Below about 80 percent most people notice it, and the device may also be throttling to avoid shutdowns.
  • It dies at twenty percent and comes back when you plug it inA cell that can no longer hold voltage under load. It is the clearest single sign a battery is finished.
  • The phone is hot on the back doing very littleA cell working harder than it should. Heat and short life travel together.
Before you spend anything

Is it definitely the battery?

A battery is the right answer most of the time, and it is worth ruling out the two things that imitate it.

IfIt drains fast but only since a recent update or a new app
Check Settings, Battery for what is actually using it before replacing anything. Software can empty a healthy battery in a morning, and a new cell will not fix that.
IfIt drains fast and Battery Health still reads above 85 percent
Worth a diagnostic. A board fault or something staying awake in the background looks identical from the outside, and a battery would not fix either.
IfThe phone is dead and will not power on at all
Start with a diagnostic rather than a battery. A dead phone can be the battery, the port or the board, and we would rather find out before you pay for a part.
IfBattery health reads above eighty percent and it still dies
Look at what is running before replacing the cell. A background process empties a healthy battery just as effectively as a worn one does.
IfCharging is slow as well as short
Check the port before the battery. A dirty port charges slowly and a worn cell empties quickly, and they are two different repairs.

If you are not sure which of these you have, that is what the free diagnostic is for. It costs nothing and it is the step that stops people paying for the wrong repair.

What parts do we fit?

Genuine Apple service parts where they exist for the component, and premium aftermarket where they do not. You are told which one your repair uses before you agree to it, and the 360-day warranty is the same either way.

We will not describe a part as genuine, original or Apple certified unless that is what is going into your laptop. If the honest answer is premium aftermarket, that is what we say at the counter.

  • The battery is glued into the top case. A swollen cell lifts the trackpad first; stop charging it and bring it in, because that is the one laptop fault that is genuinely urgent.

Genuine, OEM and aftermarket: what the words actually mean

What the €249 includes

  • A new battery, fitted and cycled
  • The old cell removed and recycled properly
  • Charging, current draw and health checked after fitting
  • 360-day warranty on the part and the workmanship

Nothing extra gets done and charged for without you saying yes to it. Where the diagnostic turns up a second fault, the work stops there and you hear the price before it goes any further.

Diagnostics from €25. A clean-up check is free.

A collection and return across Dublin can be added when you book. The repair price and the warranty are the same either way.

Choose the part

Two tiers, named before you agree.

On a battery the tier is not about how it looks. It is about whether the cell holds the capacity printed on it.

iMEND Premium

Original or manufacturer-grade part

The manufacturer's own cell. On an iPhone it keeps the battery health readout working without a service notice, which is the practical difference most people notice.

Priced at the counter

Value Edition

Premium aftermarket, tested to the same standard

A cell made to the original specification with cycle data behind it. We will fit this happily; what we will not fit is a cell nobody can tell us how it was stored or what it tested at.

Priced at the counter

The €249 on this page is our standard quote for this repair. Which tier suits your device is a conversation at the counter, and the price for each is on the table before you decide. The 360-day warranty is the same on both, because we would not offer a tier we did not think would last.

A cell sold as 3,300mAh that actually holds 2,900 shows full health on day one and falls off a cliff at eight months. That is the entire reason we are not the cheapest battery in Dublin.

The parts we use, in full

How we do it

From the counter to back in your hand.

Tell us what it is doing

Two minutes online, or straight in the door at 4 Richmond Road. The more you can say about when it started, the faster we get to the cause.

Diagnostic

We confirm what has actually failed before anything is ordered or opened. It costs nothing and it is the step that stops people paying for the wrong repair.

You approve the price

You get the exact figure before any work starts. Nothing else happens without asking you first.

The repair is carried out

It stays in the shop. The work is done on our own bench by the technicians who do it every day of the week.

Bench testing

Nothing is handed back untested. The repaired part and its neighbours are all checked first.

Back in your hands

Yours again, from the counter or by courier, with 360 days of cover on the part and the work.

Before it goes back

What we test every time.

A repair is not finished when the part is fitted. It is finished when the things around it have been checked.

Current under load

Checked while the phone is working, which is where a bad cell shows itself and a resting one does not.

Charge rate under load

Measured with the phone working rather than idle, because that is where a weak cell shows itself.

Temperature during charge

A new cell that runs warm is a new cell we do not send out.

Health reporting after the swap

Confirmed in settings where the device reports it, so you can see the number for yourself before you leave.

What happens to what is on it?

We are replacing a part, not reading a phone. Your photos, messages and accounts are not something this job touches.

The one place it comes up is testing. A repair is not finished until it has been used, and using a locked device means a passcode. You are welcome to withhold it, and we will tell you which checks that leaves undone rather than quietly skipping them. A passcode you do give us lives on a paper docket that gets shredded, never in a database.

Back it up first if you can. A device that has taken a knock has had its storage shaken whether or not anything looks wrong, and a backup is free insurance against the day that matters.

Will it still survive a splash?

Treat the device as no longer water resistant after any repair, including this one.

An IP rating is measured on a brand new, factory sealed device in a laboratory. It is a description of how that device left the factory, not a property it keeps. Heat, age and everyday knocks degrade the seal long before anybody opens it, which is why phones that have never been repaired still let water in.

Opening a device means cutting through adhesive. We refit with fresh adhesive, which gives you back a physical seal that keeps rain and splashes out. What we will not do is claim the original rating is restored, because there is no way for us or for any independent shop in Ireland to test that.

If the device lives near water, tell us when you book. It changes what we recommend and it is a two minute conversation rather than a surprise afterwards.

The 360-day warranty

Every completed repair is covered for 360 days on the part and the workmanship. If the display we fitted fails, or the fitting was at fault, we put it right at no charge.

What it does not cover is a new accident. A phone dropped again after the repair, fresh physical damage, liquid damage, or a fault in a part we did not touch, all sit outside it. That is the same limit any honest repair warranty has.

No fix, no fee. The diagnostic is from €25, and if the repair does not happen you pay nothing.

Three ways to get it to us

  • Walk in to Drumcondra4 Richmond Road, Dublin 3. No appointment. Mon to Sat 10:00 to 18:00, closed Sunday. Most phone screens and batteries done in 15 to 45 minutes while you wait.
  • We collect and returnDoor to door across Dublin, Monday to Friday, usually 2 to 4 working days. The repair takes the same time; the courier is the difference.
  • Send it in yourselfPost it to the shop with a tracked, insured service and a note with your number. We cannot cover a parcel in transit, and that is the honest trade-off for the route existing.

Same repair price and the same 360-day warranty on all three. The only thing that changes is how the device travels.

Asked all the time

MacBook Pro 14-inch (M2 Pro/Max) screen questions.

€249, including the part, the fitting, the testing and the 360-day warranty. VAT is included. You get that figure confirmed before anything is opened, and if we cannot repair the phone you pay nothing.

15 to 45 minutes for most phones. If the diagnostic turns up something else, or a part has to be ordered, we tell you before you commit rather than after.

A clean-up check is free. Any other diagnostic on the MacBook Pro 14-inch (M2 Pro/Max) is from €25, and you are told the cost before it starts. No additional paid work happens without your approval.

Treat it as urgent. A swelling cell is under pressure and pushing your screen off its frame. Stop charging it, stop pressing the screen back down, and bring it in. We dispose of swollen cells properly rather than putting them in a bin.

Most phone batteries are rated to hold about 80 percent of their original capacity after 400 to 500 full charge cycles, which for most people is two to three years. Heat shortens it, and so does leaving it on charge at high temperature.

No. This is hardware work and we do not go into your photos, messages or accounts. Back the phone up before any repair as a matter of course.

Rarely, for a battery. A battery is the cheapest repair that makes an old phone feel new, and on most models it costs a fraction of a replacement handset. If we think you would be throwing good money after bad we will say so.

It can, and not because the battery is a speed part. Phones slow themselves down to avoid shutting off when a cell can no longer deliver peak current. Replace the cell and that throttling stops.

Treat it as urgent. Stop charging it, stop using it, and do not press on the back or try to lever the phone open. Bring it in and we will deal with it properly.

Some manufacturers pair the cell to the board and show a notice after any replacement, genuine or not. Everything works; it is a parts message. We tell you in advance if your model does it.

No. Checking is free and so is telling you it does not need replacing, which happens more often than people expect.

That is macOS reporting the battery has passed its rated cycle count or is no longer holding charge properly. It is a normal end of life message rather than a fault, and a new cell clears it.

The usual signs are a charge that drops in steps, shutting down above 20 percent, only working while plugged in, or the back of the case lifting. If the device is also slow and hot, bring it in for a diagnostic rather than guessing, because a failing charging port looks similar from the outside.

Treat it as urgent. Stop charging it, stop using it, and do not press on the back. A swollen cell can split. Bring it in and we will remove and dispose of it safely the same day.

A new cell should hold a normal day of use and stay above 80 percent of its rated capacity for several hundred charge cycles. The 360-day warranty covers a cell that fails early.
